Funny how this happened in a state with one of some of the strictest gun control laws. It's almost like they don't work because criminals don't care about laws.

@SW-User we have such strict controls in the UK and only 2 mass shootings in the UK since 1987 - just 2 mass shootings in 35 years - how many in the USA in the last year???
Most people who commit these mass shootings are mentally unstable, not criminals.

@SW-User In fact, the gun control laws in California are very weak and ineffectual. There needs to be a federal license required to buy guns or ammo with photo, fingerprints and a mandatory gun safety training class. And a ban on semi-auto rifles and large capacity magazines.
Gun Control laws will not prevent all gun violence, but they will save thousands of lives. Remember, the life saved may be your own.

@badminton Every time. Every time some form of gun regulation is put I place and inevitably fails the knee jerk reaction is to grab more power and further disarm the civilian population. Gun owners need to take a stand and say no more regulation. It will not solve the problem and will only make us less safe.

If I'm going to live on this planet and go about enjoying my life, I need to live through it with some reasonable level of risk tolerance. The risk of myself or any of my family members, friends, even school children dying from gun violence is extremely low. It's a risk I'm willing to take

@badminton and that's not to say those who die from gun violence is anything less than a tragedy or to say there isn't anything we can't do about it that doesn't include giving up our rights.

SW-User
@badminton what makes you say that? I'm a gun owner? I've never committed any crimes with my guns. Literally every single one of my family members owns at least one gun, none of them have ever committed any crimes with their guns. Many of my friends own guns and none of them have committed crimes with their guns. All of us a perfectly responsible gun owners.

@badminton actually I really don't understand where you get the idea that law abiding gun owners in large are irresponsible? I could look the statistics up but nearly every time a firearm is used in a crime at least one gun law is broken

@SW-User Likewise here. Where I live guns are quite prolific. Never once have I been afraid to go out and about, nor are there many gun-related crimes. In general I'm certain guns are used to stop crime without a shot being fired far more often than actual crimes being committed with guns. Thing is, rarely will you hear about it.
