How do they stack up to Automobiles?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Iwillwait texting and driving kills a lot of young people plus others they may run into with their cars.
Tracos · 51-55, M
@Iwillwait cars arent designed to kill

@Stereoguy true... just like most people die in a bed... and yest beds arent designed to kill either
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Tracos hospital beds at that.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Iwillwait More people die from guns in the US annually than automobiles.
Iwillwait · M
@cherokeepatti I'm talking daily deaths, annual deaths.
Iwillwait · M
@windinhishair I highly doubt that statistic.

Plus, look at alcohol, cigarettes. They're legal and only cause death.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Iwillwait More people in the US die every year from guns than automobiles. Incredibly, that also means that more people die every day from guns than automobiles.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Iwillwait You mentioned automobiles. And the data are clear. You can doubt and ignore and deny statistics and facts if you wish.
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
@Iwillwait no action taken to build safe transit either. That's a bigger stack, you're right-. So there is nothing wrong with the death rate from either! My bad. Keep it up!
Iwillwait · M
@windinhishair 102 auto deathsper day.

Last year there was 42'915 deaths by Automobile.

We should all be walking?

2021 38'390 deaths by fire arms.
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
@Iwillwait mass transit with urban planning for more bikes and walking. Also too peaceful for the Americans. Death on the road is good, because whatever- insert lies.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Iwillwait Many more people drive automobiles every day than shoot guns. We should be careful driving and watch out for others. Guns will continue to kill because that is what they are designed to do.
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
@windinhishair or, Americans could quickly end both tragedies.
Maybe I know you too well to have hope, but you deserve to be interrupted with the way out of your problem as you high five over keeping it
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Changeisgonnacome I have no clue what you are trying to say. Government should govern.
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
@windinhishair Americans need to disarm and build mass transit was what I clearly said-. You can't go there,-. Keep exactly this death rate, it will only go up.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Changeisgonnacome I agree that we need to disarm. And more mass transit would be beneficial, of course.

Iwillwait · M
@OggggO I appreciate the source but will not accept it as fact.

I find the stats here more relevant and without an agenda.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_violence_in_the_United_States
@Iwillwait That’s a deflection. Cars only result in death when they’re misused or there’s an accident. Guns have no other purpose except as a means to wound or kill living things. Even in target practice the purpose is to become more efficient at hitting whatever one plans to shoot. Even knives have other, non-lethal uses.
OggggO · 36-40, M
@Iwillwait So, did you notice how despite occasional spikes, those deaths have been trending downward for decades? Meanwhile, gun deaths are trending upwards and have been for nearly ten years.
@Iwillwait The stats about cars are moot. Who buys a car with the intention of harming another being, either by hunting or in self-defense ?
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Iwillwait The source you like uses CDC data. CDC also reports more automobile accidents annually than gun deaths, though both numbers are in the 38,000 to 42,000 range. Regardless, gun deaths are largely preventable, and linked to the number of guns available, since the states with the most gun deaths tend to be those with the highest gun ownership.
