I just saw the news about the shooting in Miami. The spokesman commented on the situation regarding the known facts about the shooters, the weapons used and the fatalities and injuries.
Reading the responses on this thread my input relates to other aspects which IMO foster, embolden and enable this gun violence.
Our criminal justice system is under attack, and is either reluctant to or can’t stop this. There is the mentality of “Defund the police”, and IMO the “persecution” and the (no pun intended) , “ hand cuffing” of law enforcement which has many negative effects on our law enforcement throughout this nation, and their ability, and yes willingness to do the job of policing.
Another factor such in NY state and NYC you have the no cash bail law. With the exception of a very few criminal acts, most offenders arrested are back on the street within hours, many with long rap sheets and many with previous arrests for guns and their use in the commission of crimes. And in NYC crime is up considerably.
Government all levels in this country have to be willing to make hard, yes, unpopular decisions and take actions that will start to reduce gun violence in America. They are for whatever reasons reluctant to and failing to do anything.

@soar2newhighs The ready availability of weapons of mass killing is also a major factor. Additional gun control is a must.

@windinhishair It is my view that countless governments, when they have access to guns, turn those guns on their population. I think it's a symptom of our hedonistic modern society of wanting to shirk all responsibility and thinking to the government that we think that all these bad groups, governments and corporations that have done unspeakable things to their citizens, just don't do those things anymore. The idea that governments just don't do that sort of thing anymore is based on nothing, it's believed because it's comfortable. And it's also doubly strange that many people who claim that the country is some evil patriarchy that oppressed the whole world then suddenly want to give up every freedom to that same state and push to disarm citizens when apparently police are just shooting everyone because they are a racist and power hungry. Either you think we dont need to worry about an oppressive government and dont need guns, or you think police are going around and shooting people at will based on personal prejudices. Those two contradict you can't have both. Yet people are somehow able to hold two contradicting views in their head with politics all the time, it's become like a religion.
