I feel the United States

Though it has some great aspects about it, needs to partake in a more compassionate capitalism approach. I feel though some people would disagree with me that the government does not do enough for its people. Corporate interests and special lobby groups are what run the show in this country. Though it is like this to an extent in every country. I feel it is especially prominent in America. For example, companies that make millions and billions of dollars per year pay their employees crap wages and overwork them to the point it is unhealthy. They do not give them enough breaks and have them work in 10 + hour shifts and 50+ hours per week. Employees should not be required to work more than 35-40 hours at the very most each week. Also part time workers should get the same benefits as full time workers and even unskilled workers should get a liveable wage.

More examples: the government does not put a cap on how much universities, colleges, and trade schools can charge for tuition. Higher education has become more about the stakeholders earning an obscene amount of money than educating and preparing students for life after school. The government should also hold schools accountable for helping their students find careers and entry level jobs after they graduate and work with employers. Employers also need to stop being so picky and requiring experience students and recent graduates do not have for entry level career jobs.Employers should also be prepared to train their workers and pay for schooling too in an apprenticeship and traineeship type model.

The government does not provide enough infrastructure and good transportation options to those who cannot drive or don’t want to drive. Some people cannot afford a car and are struggling to get around except if they take rides from family and friends. There should be clean efficient and reliable public transit even in remote areas that are affordable or even free to ride for disadvantaged groups of people.

The government does not help keep the cost of food and other necessities affordable. Why in other countries is food so much more fresh and affordable to eat? But here in a supposedly prosperous country, people are struggling to put food on the table even when they work hard? Also in other countries they have banned chemicals in food that are harmful to eat but our stuff here is so processed it’s not good for you.

Healthcare: why don’t we have universal health care coverage for everyone? People can pay to private health care organizations if they wish for treatment but shouldn’t have to go broke. Universal healthcare should be an option for affordable to free healthcare for others who cannot afford private healthcare markets. Also people shouldn’t be stuck with jobs they hate because they will lose their healthcare coverage.

Instead we pay millions to billions of dollars to fund wars and overthrow foreign governments. Where are billions of dollars going?

I could continue but those are some examples.

A few comments that maybe you won't like.

50+ hours per week
I don't know of a single company that does this. Emplyees get paid time and a half over 40 hours. And now, no taxes on the extra half time over 40.

a cap on how much universities, colleges, and trade schools can charge for tuition
We're a capitalist society. Price controls don't work. You're not old enough to recall gas lines when gas price controls were imposed. But I agree the prices are too high. They are other reasons for that and they need addressing.

infrastructure and good transportation options
I tend to agree. But I don't believe free rides solve anything. Reduced costs for some groups I am willing to explore, but free I do not agree with.

keep the cost of food and other necessities affordable
Again, capitalism means the marketplace drives costs. Supply and demand. Falsly imposed price caps hurt more than help. I do completely agree with you on chemicals and food additives. Our FDA is failing us.

universal health care
Obamacare realy screwedup healthcare in my opinion. My premiums doubled and deductibles went up 500% immediately after Obamacare. I agree more needs to be done on healthcare. Take the special interests out of it and maybe we can find solutions that work.

billions of dollars to fund wars
The world is a dangerous place. We need to have the strongest military in the world and do. There are threats that need to be dealt with, but the approach the US has taken over the past 20+ years has been bad. I believe Iran was a threat and did need to be taken out. Let's see how Trump deals with this. I don't want this to be another Iraq. The $$ spent on the military needs to be 100% transparent, so we agree on that. But there is plenty of fraud happening around the country and that needs to be uncovered as well. And we're talking tens of billions of dollars. Imagine how many societal ills can be resolved if we address fraud.

Contradiction of terms. Capitalism and compassion don't belong together.

Read Adam Smith's book: the wealth of nations. 1776. It's the first book on capitalism.
