They did not. Much of the Middle East was Christian. The crusaders were answering to calls, pleas from their fellow Christian, to aid in their defense against the conquering of Christianity. In Anatolia, land was still Christian. In the Holy Land, many Christians remained. Islam was conquering. It had not yet conquered.

Christians have since been erased from the Middle East. Many were erased from Europe. Spain lay under Islamic rule for centuries. The Balkans were conquered. The Christians fought, yet almost a quarter of the Balkans is now Islamic. Italy, France, and others were raided. Every man, from the Frenchman to the Magyar to the Spaniard, had to fight the invader. Spain, after centuries of efforts, repelled them. Hungary repelled them. Bulgaria repelled them. Greece repelled them. All countries that reclaimed their nation. The others? They fought to never have to reclaim. Following the death of Mohammad in 632 the armies of Islam swept North Africa, conquered the Iberian Peninsula of Spain and Portugal, and waited at the foot of the Pyrenees to attack France by 711. Four or five HUNDRED years later after constant attacks, endless bloodshed, and cruel enslavement for anyone who was not willing to bow to Islam, Pope Urbane called for the first crusade.

Maybe some of you would like to say just how many hundreds of years Europe should have stood silently by watching the murder and enslavement of the world before they acted. Or, is Islam the ONLY RELIGION ever and no one else has the right to believe in anything else?
