How come the republican supporters are not upset about the new tariff war?

That is something that will cost us ALL if tariffs actually go through.

Even if it does bring jobs back to America, do you really relish the thought of paying even more for things that are overpriced?

Some think, "At first it may cost more but prices will eventually come down". Didn't trump himself say something about once prices go up, it is really hard to bring them down?

I am just trying to understand why some members of the Right would cheer on someone who is doing things that will hit their wallets even harder.

It wont. Don't believe the left's propaganda.

(1) The tariff tax is collected by the government, which will be paid to the American people in one way or another, thus offsetting any price increases.

(2) Tariffs aren't based on sticker price but on arrival value when it hits US shores. A big dfference between that value and the price when it goes on the shelf. So a 10% tariff on something that we previously paid $100 for won't suddenly cost $110. At most $102 or $103, an if that tariff gets given back to American taxpayers, it may even cost the American taxpayers $98 or $99

@Heartlander Okay suppose that tariff is given back to Americans, that means the dollar will be worth even less and further diminishing the value of peoples' personal savings.

I do imagine price increases will correlate with the tariff percentage because - companies are going to just cut their loss. They can hardly WAIT to jack up prices some more.

@Punches I don’t think so. The other side of the coin is tax cuts that will leave more money in the people’s pockets, more money for businesses to spread around and even possibly lower prices while enjoying greater after tax profits. More profits mean higher dividends for stockholders, better returns on investments, etc. As it is now, foreign corporations have lower income taxes than the US, thus better profits if things are made overseas. Tariff will close that gap, taking away the “made elsewhere” advantage.

@Heartlander It would be nice if that whole "Trickle down" thing actually happened BUT - we already know that investors will expect more money so all that is not going to help the common folks anyways.

I do not care if stockholders get better dividents, that isn't going to help us "working class".

The rich and the stockholders will hoard whatever extra money comes and the rest of us will once again eat crow.
