President Trump has stated the the US will apply 25% tariffs on both Canada and Mexico starting this Saturday. This is a punitive action based in the levels of drugs and people those countries allow to pass into the US illegally.

Will Canada and Mexico make adjustments or be stubborn and allow these tariffs to destroy their respective economies?

As a Canadian, I am happy to report that many Canadians are now buying only Canadian goods. Other goods not from the US are the second option. We have counter tariffs ready to roll out at the end of the 30- day period should that evil orange clown impose his. He is not a good neighbour. He would destroy the world as well as his nation just to stand in the ashes.

@PoetryNEmotion Sorry you're a little butt-hurt. Go ahead and buy Canadian goods. That's the way it should be. Your socialist government has dropped the ball on its immigration just like the US did under Biden. Trump is fixing it and forcing Canada and Mexico to clean up their act. I see no issues with it. Who has been a bad neighbor?

Your counter tariffs won't do much quite honestly. And I don't think it will come to that. Canada will come to fair trade terms even if they're dragged to the negotiating table kicking and screaming. I think Trump just proved that.
@PoetryNEmotion as a Canadian, you should buy Canadian goods to support your national economy. But do you want a trade war with the US? I think not. Canadian exports to the US account for 22% of your GDP. In contrast, US exports to Canada account for 1.2% of our GDP. In this case, it is about the size of the dog in the fight.

Trump isn't being a bully. He really just wants the border secured and the fentanyl trafficking stopped. But Trudeau is owned by China.
@PoetryNEmotion oh yeah, I'm sure Trump is quaking in his boots over Canadian tariffs.

No, what Canada should be doing is what anyone does when they want to avert war: form alliances. Since we're looking at a trade war, we need to be making alliances w/other economic blocks that aren't happy w/Trump's jingoistic approach to global commerce. As oddball as it would be for a country like Canada to form a strategic alliance with China, against the US, of all places, we're in a pretty oddball situation.
@BizSuitStacy Do not tell me what to do or to feel as a Canadian. We are a strong country. Trump will learn this. Good day.
@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP I do not care whether he quakes or not. He is an evil man. Evil will not triumph. You are not in a position of power. Laugh as you may. Canada will triumph in the end. We are good. Trump is evil. That is what I know. I do not need to discuss this further with you.

@PoetryNEmotion I’m on your side, Canada! 🇨🇦 You fought with us on Juno beach during D-Day, and this American doesn’t forget his friends.
@PoetryNEmotion I'm not telling you how to feel. I am explaining simple economic facts. This isn't an Olympic hockey match. This is about how a beagle can't survive a fight with a bull mastiff.
