Liberals
JSul3 · 70-79
@HoraceGreenley Liberals freed the slaves, gave women the right to vote, and many other social programs.
Do a web search on "Most Conservative Nations" and see the list.

@JSul3 WRONG. The liberalism of today (the goose stepping National Socialist movement) did not exist when the Democrat party started CIVIL WAR to maintain slavery.
In fact, trying to compare today's political divisions to those 70 years ago is moronic.
To bring you up to speed:
1. The term LIBERAL used to mean Laissez Faire free market CAPITALISM. Famous free market liberals included Ayn Rand, Ludwig Von Mises, Friedrich Hayek, etc. In other words, the most brilliant economists of all time.
2. The term CONSERVATIVE used to mean totally against any sort of change at all. Ayn Rand was very unkind to conservatism back then.
3. Liberalism by today's standards began in the early Sixties with the Port Huron Statement, which was the beginning of a movement of pushing MARXISM into our lives. The closest thing to today's liberalism (in terms of ideology and tactics) would be Nazi Germany.
4. Today's modern day mainstream conservatism was pioneered by William F. Buckley, R. Emmett Tyrell, Ronald Reagan, Rush Limbaugh, Milton Freidman and other brilliant economists, which is why most Americans are conservative.
None of these factors existed when the Democrats supported slavery, fought a CIVIL WAR to preserve it, and then passed Jim Crow laws when newly freed blacks began competing favorably in the marketplace.
About the only thing that hasn't changed in 200 years would be the Democrat party. They have ALWAYS been the party of racism, WARS, and bad economies. And today only an IDIOT would vote Democrat.

@Reason10 Conservative Democrats supported slavery.
Today's conservative Party of Trump (formerly known as the GOP) are intent on taking freedoms away...limiting access to the ballot box, ending rights of women, ending separation of church and state, no no longer the party of the rule of law or Constitution...and other rights.
Read Project 2025. Come back here and tell us that is what you want for the nation.

@JSul3 Republicans freed the slaves in the US. Democrats were pro-slavery.

Conservatives today give more freedom to private citizens and companies. It's liberals that restrict speech and want more government control.

@HoraceGreenley So is that why so many red states are restricting access to the ballot box....taking domain over a woman's body and her personal decisions....banning access to books....and now, LA. demanding the 10 Commandments be posted in every public school?
HG, you have been misinformed.

@HoraceGreenley "Conservative Democrats" were pro slavery.
What party is adamant about restricting access to the ballot box? It is not the Democrats.

Conservatives don't want to restrict access to the ballot box. They just want to ensure citizens and people with a heartbeat are the only one's voting.

@HoraceGreenley As long as they vote for the Party of Trump, right?

As long as they are citizens and vote once.

@HoraceGreenley Reducing early voting days and hours....reducing voting locations....reducing the number of voting machines in locations....limiting drop boxes for mail ballots....removing registered voters from the rolls.
That is voter suppression.

I live in Massachusetts. We have a city with a large Haitian population of recent immigrants.
A national election took place in Haiti and the Haitian citizens in this Massachusetts city were allowed to vote in the election. An actual polling station was set up in the city.
I don't know the circumstances, but this only happened one time.
Voters were required to vote in person and show identification.
If one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere can do this, then so can the US.
Showing ID id not a hardship but an insult to minorities.

Unless you are in the military there should be no mail in voting because the opportunity for fraud is too great.
Early voting provides another opportunity for voter fraud. Vote on the day of the election.
There are plenty of people who are "registered" to vote who should not be. People that moved out of state and
And cemeteries are not a valid address.
The other things are BS because Conservatives vote in person on election day.
Go peddle your lies somewhere else.

@HoraceGreenley I have no issue with ID....but why can't you be allowed to use a student ID or even an expired drivers license w/photo (for seniors who no longer drive....or perhaps a state gov issued ID card?
Am in TX. For decades I voted using my state issued voter card that had all of my info, and I signed. I then go to my voting location, present my card, they look my name/info in their registry, the info matches, I sign their book, the signature match....I then would proceed to cast my ballot. No photo required.
I now vote by mail. The ballot arrives. It has an envelope to place my completed ballot in.....the ballot has a bar code on it....then you place it into a larger return envelope. You provide your TX Drivers License number or last 4 digits of your SS#. I provide both. Then after you seal the return envelope, you sign your name across the fold of the envelope and date it. The return envelope has a bar code on it. You must place a first class stamp on it and mail or hand deliver it to a designated drop box. There was 1 drop box for my county. It was located at the court house, 32 miles away.
Several Trump voters were found to have voted illegally, as I am sure you are aware of.
Love vote by mail? Go to the red state of UT gov web page. They encourage vote by mail and early voter registration. This should be the gold standard for national vote by mail.

@HoraceGreenley Mail in voting should be abolished.
On the other hand, ABSENTEE VOTING has been around a long time and it is the ONLY way the HEROES of this country are able to participate in the democratic process.
ABSENTEE ballots are something that has to be arranged in one's home district well in advance. My first vote (for America's greatest president, Reagan) was done in a district 600 miles from my home district. It was through ABSENTEE balloting.
Get rid of mail in voting, since it is riddled with FRAUD.
