UK Autumn Statement from the government

The Chancellor's autumn statement is due tomorrow.
Reading the papers today it seems everyone is likely to be hit with increases in pricing since inflation is stubbornly refusing to come down fast enough and pension and benefit claimants are likely to bare the brunt of a suspected 1% cut in income tax or national insurance contributions they want to give the top 1%.
Conservatives. When you don't know what to do, hit those with no power to hit back first.

They've also announced that disabled people have a duty to work from home or face the loss of their benefits.

No mention of where these jobs that are doable by the disabled from home are going to magically appear from or of the fact that the majority of the disabled would choose to work if they could find jobs they could do.

It p!sses me off that they class the disabled as workshy scroungers.

@AntisocialTroll They always do this (or at least threaten to) anytime their economic policies fail.
I'm sure Sunak is well aware he's going to get trashed at the next election.
But that still leaves the incoming party with the same dilemma.
A minus growth economy; huge hole in public funding and fewer than ever options.

@Picklebobble2 If you don't support the disabled with benefits they end up costing more to society in hospitalisations and social services that inevitably occur as a result.

It's a false economy to remove benefits from the disabled.

Of course people have power to hit back. Its called the Ballot box. But you have to be prepared to act. Its not as if you dont have a perfectly good example to observe in America. When both options are unacceptable, one is always less acceptable than the other. I understand they are all corrupt chinless wonders. But kick out the chinless wonders who will give tax breaks to the rich and give the others a chance to tax the rich..Its not as if you cant see the desperation on the Conservative side, resurrecting David Cameron..😷
It’s the £12500 tax threshold which is the killer. Not to be changed until 2028, being more and more people into poverty.

@sunriselover The working poor.
You can understand those who choose to live 'off grid' and work cash in hand jobs in the black economy.
Although that in itself produces more problems.

I think a lot of those pensioners likely voted for Boris and his populist shitshow in 2019. They got what they voted for.

@Richard65 Not good if a sizable slice of your elders are likely to be put through the dehumanising ordeal of being referred to food banks to ensure they can eat every other day though is it

@Picklebobble2 I agree, but unfortunately people aren't knowledgeable about politics and vote through prejudice or on the basis of empty promises. Anyone who votes Tory surely knows by now exactly what they represent. I'm sorry for those who didn't vote for the self-serving white supremacist Boris Johnson, but for those who did, including huge swathes of the Red Wall, you reap what you sow.
