In case you hadn’t heard Rishi Sunak is now head of the Tory Party and the next PM.

I wonder why. He is a multi-millionaire and an investment banker, he doesn't need the annual $120,000 lifetime pension which he will receive when he resigns in December.

@helenS 'I wonder why. He is a multi-millionaire and an investment banker.'

Born to rule my dear , born to rule.

@helenS strictly speaking it's not a pension, it's supposed to be the maximum reclaimable allowance against additional expenses (staff, security etc). Not sure if anyone audits it in practice though, would be interesting to find out?

He is likely responsible for 1000s of Covid deaths with his stupid 'Eat out to help out' campaign.
Hes an awful person.

@Entwistle reminded me of this...

I did read that just this morning. As an American, I'm not sure what that will mean for UK and whether he will be seen as a good choice or a party stop gap measure.
Others would know better than I would.

Will they now start a Tea Party in the UK, pretend it's not racist, and start looking for Rishi's real birth certificate?

He is rich and his wife doesn’t pay her taxes in the UK
PSuss1 · 51-55, M
@Strictmichael75 I'm no fan but I wouldn't hold either of those things against him, they were just playing the game, by the rules (blame our f*d up tax laws!).

I'm more concerned that he was an ardent Brexiteer and a massive fanboy of Free Enterprise Zones/Charter Cities (think very low regulation, low pay, sweat shops ...Singapore on Thames).

He's certainly a better option than Johnson or Truss for the country but only time will tell if he's just a different flavour of psycho!!

Maybe they'll call for elections.

Praise the lord we are saved by a non british tax payer sooner the tories are out the better

@Entwistle his wife was non-dom for the last tax year so has not paid UK tax yet. She claims she will this April. He pays tax but claims all the parliamentary expenses so probably gets it all back.
Entwistle · 56-60, M
@meJess I know that. However they do indeed both pay tax here in the UK.
meJess · F
@Entwistle once again she has not paid UK tax yet, only her non dom fee in lieu of taxes. We are waiting for April 2023 to see if she does.
