Was the reason the name of St Petersburg changed (to Leningrad) and not other USSR cities like Moscow that the Communists were anti-Christian?

Yes Russian commies were against Orthodox Church. You'll find similar sentiments in China exists also. I think USSR was against any Abrahamic religions. Chinese commies are however not hostile towards Eastern religions
