I Don't Think Guns Make Us Safer

To say that the high number of guns has made the world unsafe is simply not true.

Gun violence in the US has steadily declined year over year since 1993 (you can verify via the FBI Uniform Crime Report). Today, gun violence in the US is down 50% since 1993. It's estimated that were were 180 million legally owned firearms in 1993. Today it is estimated that there are nearly 400 million legally owned firearms in the US.

So...for close to 25 years, gun violence has gone down significantly while gun ownership has gone up significantly.

Now...I'm not saying the decline in violence is directly related to the increase in gun ownership. But we know for certain that this increase in the number of guns DID NOT make the US less safe.

The world is unsafe due to incompatible ideological and political differences.

WRONG If people didnt kill each other with guns it would be hatchets knives cars etc IT is Humans that kill Pencils DONT flunk tests

@Mike- You have to work on implementation of laws in the country by developing a good law enforcement. Anyways giving guns to everybody is definitely not the solution because anybody can get frustrated and angered at any point of time and start shooting and hasnt the recent shootings given people any lesson? Most of the culprits are random crazy people shooting randomly. They can all be stopped through proper gun control.

@ Mike- How does it matter whether the criminals care about it or not... if you have laws against it then even criminals are gonna be wary about carrying them... you can place a person in jail for carrying a gun... wouldn't that significantly bring down gun usage and there is always police to reduce the number of criminals... the bigger picture is even guns continue to proliferate this way... very soon we will be in a land where people wave guns at each other for trivialest of matters

Criminals will still get guns. A sane responsible pers won't shoot anyone unless self .defence

A career criminal will get a gun no matter what. They won't care about permits or anything

I hope we make a country where no one pulls a gun on nobody. And why do you think it is not possible... Hasn't China been able to do it? Even the terrorists that attacked in China last time had to use knives to kill people. That has only been possible because China has totally banned guns in the country and has been able to implement that successfully.

Criminals will shoot at cops so the can get away and avoid jail.

If you are going to counter guns with guns and you think that is gonna bring stability in the world... A strict gun law can make it very difficult for anybody, even criminals, to carry guns. And a gun is too powerful a weapon, one click from a comfortable distance and the other person is dead... Such a powerful weapon in a person's hand has a lot of impact on the person's sanity.

Why not? If you mandate a strict gun license for everybody...even criminals will have to get a license and show a strong reason to carry guns which they obviously cannot... Guns are not required for any individual infact they should only be allowed to border guards or restricted government security...

Yes You are right... humans have always been warsome. But giving them guns is not gonna help the situation either. It is gonna place more power on the already quarrelsome species creating more anarchy.

If nobody has guns, the innocent wont need gun either...
@mike... people are never gonna change... so you have to frame laws to adapt to that..

No but allowing the innocent to protect themselves is the SMART play
