@berangere: But hasn't Trump been bankrupted and been in billions of dollars of debt multiple times? Isn't that worse than a poor person who has always managed to stay afloat and pay their bills and not needed other people to bail them out?

@GlassDog: I see what you mean,but the economy is always better in the hands of say a business man who knows how to handle large amount of momey and how to invest it wisely,yes I heard that Trump got bankrupt but he is not bankrupt now,he must have known how to get himself out of that spot.

@silmarilion456: I think we have to be allowed to use a specific example to illustrate a point. Although, out of interest, would you have said, "Let's not make this about Ulysses S. Grant" if I'd have mentioned his bankruptcy? If not, why not?

@silmarilion456: Not all people "deserve" to be poor,some work very hard and have terrible set backs and difficulties to surmount,like raising kids on their own,illness in the family that has to be paid for and often poor people cannot afford private insurance.Loads of reasons why a person is poor,mental illness is one of them,having to live in the streets because of domestic violence.But what Trump was saying is that an economy to be successful has to be run by people who know how to handle money,the stock exchange,and how to invest money,in short someone who makes a career of it.I have noticed so many negative things have been said about Donald trump and yet nothing is heard about what he is doing right.

@GlassDog: I can think of someone who appears to have never failed,and maybe he is already running the economy of the world by manipulating the stock exchange:George Soros! If Trump has failed at some stages he probably has learned from his mistakes.

@silmarilion456: I know some people think that way about poor people,but they are wrong,shortsighted and judgemental.

@berangere: Isn't George Soros the poster boy for success, though? He spotted the opportunity for currency shorting and dove in head first. Even though it cost my country dearly, it was capitalism in action. A bit like Amazon and Starbucks and Google exploiting taxation and advertising regulation in Europe. Would you want companies to behave ethically if it cost your standard of living?

@GlassDog: George Soros never acted ethically in his life,george Soros acted to suit George Soros,I would not want him running the economy of my country because he would totally disregard our needs as citizens if and when it suited him,anyways I believe he is already indirectly running the economy by manipulating the stock exchange,it is not just about wealth with him,it also is about power.

@berangere: He looks like any other capitalist to me. Although he does appear to have got to that stage of enlightenment, like Bill Gates, of realising that he's got quite enough and that he should spread some of his wealth. Whether that's to make himself feel better or not, who knows? I understand why the far-right would have a problem, though. He's supposed to take the money and not talk about the dirty way he did it, not ask for the dirty loopholes to be closed up, and certainly not give the money away again.

@berangere: To be fair, even the very not-poor leaders we do have are bankrupting the country.

@GlassDog: I believe that although Georges Soros is giving some of his money away he continues to be self serving.He is quite candid about how he goes about acquiring his wealth.

@silmarilion456: You cannot blame the poor for their disadvantaged positions,there are many,many reasons why people are poor,and often they are not entirely to blame for it and in some case they are not to be blame at all.
Lack of education: some children are born disadvantaged in abusive families who teach them nothing,give them no encouragements and keep putting them down,they develop a low self esteem or they become very angry people,their schooling is limited as the parents want them to find work and bring in money or the parents cannot afford the college fees,those children soon become disillusionned and turn to drugs and alcohol to escape the terrible feelings they experience,the lack of love and recognition for the quality they might possess.
Some children leave home soon because of domestic violence against their mother and themselves and end up on the streets,once on the streets they get stuck there become they have no one to turn to.They will not become wealthy,I can assure you!
Some people have had bad luck,like being cheated by a business partner and lose everything they possess and often they too end up on the streets.
Some people become ill and their families if they cannot afford private insurance or if the private insurence refuses to pay up for their treatment they have to fork out from their own pockets and have to sell everything.That happens in America.Where I live we have a national health service that covers everyone.If I needed an operation for example I would not have to sell my home to pay for it and end up living in a cardboard box on the streets like it happened to an elderly person,I read about and quite believe it as prices for medical care and surgical procedures in America are astronomical!
People suffer from mental illness,post traumatic stress like war veterants who end up on the streets and are greatly neglected by their government,those people cannot hold down a job.
There are many reasons why people are poor,they are not scums.Some rich people are scums for many reasons, but I will not go there.

@silmarilion456: I don't know whay to say about your reply.Soldiers are not losers they put their lives and limbs in dangers to fight for your country and came back,if they came back at all with physical and mental defects and scars acquired because of the appaling experiences they had to face on active duty,they deserve our respect and our support and sadly have been let down by the system and the people they served.People need support and inspiration,they need to feel they are loved,as I said poor people are not to blame,they are often victims of circumstances and bad people and sadly in this world the victims tend to get the blame.
Here is a good man who helped homeless people and gave them back some dignity.
