Tim Farron quits as Lib Dem leader.

Not a fan of the guy but thought he did a good job considering the party's reputation after the coalition with the Tories. Weird that he has gone before Theresa May.

Well maybe he and the libDems are just trying to jump the curve they can see coming !
If there IS to be another election in the not too distant future, as seems quite likely with May still needing the support of her own, let alone anybody else to prop up her government. And the sooner they get a new leader and a new Manifesto up and running the more visible they'll be to the potential voters when the time comes.

@Picklebobble2: Maybe but it depends who the replacement is. Farron was just starting to become a known face. Now people will probably again be completely unaware of who the leader is.

@thatscottishguy: Maybe they'll have to do what Corbyn was prepared to do. Get out there and talk to folk.

Wonder if people will be wanting politics to go back to the centre.

@thatscottishguy: I think the one thing that's clear is that folk want a plan ! They want to see a positive government looking forward beyond Brexit and all that.

Idk what the lib dems plan is for Brexit because they only talk about having a second referendum on it. I obviously can't criticise them for that. Just annoys me when the Scottish lib dems say no divisive indyref2 but let's have another EU ref. Definitely one of the things that came out of the EU ref result was that no party (with the exception of the SNP) had a plan. Here we are almost a year down the line and it still feels that way.

@thatscottishguy: At what point in any countries history can you say that a referendum was held where all the major parties were proposing more or less the same thing ???
Most English folk are sick of it i'm sure !Constant rows about whose interests are being well looked after and whose aren't ! All that money that's gone into it......and for what ?
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
Are you for or against another election?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@thatscottishguy: Never been a fan of the Tories so anything that keeps them quiet is fine with me.
What's the deal with Scotland and this seemingly never-ending independence thing ?
Twice you guys have had a vote and rejected it yet it keeps being brought up by at least one party in Scotland.
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
We have only voted on it once and although it was narrowly rejected it raised more questions than answers. With the promised new powers not coming to us and being dragged out of the EU it keeps the question relevant. Also the SNP have won a majority of seats in the last two elections with a manifesto pledge to seek independence.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@thatscottishguy: Fairplay, i thought it was twice.
Well, you guys might get more out of Europe as an independent nation than as part of the UK. And nobody could blame you for wanting that.
It's very disheartening knowing that not one of the major parties seems to have a solid plan post-Brexit.
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
I think the unionists have tried to say it was twice because of the referendum in 1979. That was on devolution though and the devolution side only technically lost as Labour used 40% rule (only time it was used) which meant 40% of the electorate had to vote for it. Although people voted in favour of devolution, the voter turnout wasn't high enough.

It really is a ridiculous situation to be in. The parties should have been prepared for either result. The Tories don't seem to know what to try while the other parties are just clinging onto the idea that we could maybe get all the benefits of the EU after leaving.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@thatscottishguy: I should think a fair few folk around the country would like to strangle Cameron and his idea for a referendum.
Whatever happens i'm sure the effects won't be known for a generation yet.
