The Rothschild's are an influential family sure but honestly (and you know that I respect you) I'm not really comfortable with the Rothschild or Soros conspiracies. These ideas come from the nationalist right and imply that Jews control the planet.

Tell me that bankers, media moguls and venture capitalists have huge power and I will agree all day. The same analysis also needs to take account of Murdoch and the Koch brothers etc. If this is about the systemic influence of wealth then I can agree but the Zionist conspiracy thing is not a good look.

@Burnley123: Well, I think those conspiracy theories are not far from the truth, and that there are some Jewish-Zionist surnames that control finance, media, and entertainment industry, having a great influence in our governments and our minds.

These does not mean I have a problem with Jews in general at all . I don't like Zionism, but being Jew and a Zionist are two different things.

@Cierzo: Yes, I can attest that being Jewish (or Jewish culture) and being a Zionist, are two different things, but the 10 top $B list doesn't have a single Jewish activist on it. Benjamin de Rothchild, is #1376 on that list.

@Northwest: I agree

@Northwest: So, if there is not Zionist lobby, how do you explain the enormous influence in American politics for decades? Or the mere fact that the state of Israel was created?
Northwest · M
@Cierzo: The objective of the Zionist movement, was to secure a homeland for the Jewish people. In the late 19th century, and up until about the 1930s, the focus was on buying land. During the Nazi era, WWII, and shortly after WWII, focus shifted to survival and refugee resettlement. Post 1948, the focus shifted to populating Israel.

Palestine was owned by the Ottoman Empire. The Ottomans awarded the bulk of Palestine to some Lebanese Christian families, who were loyal tax collectors for the Ottomans (Lebanon did not exist as a political entity at the time). They in turn sold it to the Zionists, who started settling Jewish families. No big conspiracy here, only simply injustice and greed.

During the Nazi era, and under the British mandate, it was about circumventing British immigration authorities, and smuggling as many European refugees as possible.

Today, in the US, AIPAC, which is not really a Zionist movement, but a lobbyist organization, that works on behalf of the state of Israel. AIPAC has been largely successful, across party lines, through PR, marketing and the creation of alliances with the American moral majority. The latter is essentially the US Evangelicals, who want to fulfill the prophecy of John, AKA, the Apocalypse and Armageddon. So, it's more about Christians here, than Jews, and why AIPAC seems to have so much influence.

The only candidate who refused to bend over to AIPAC is Bernie Sanders, and I respect him for that. Hillary Clinton adopted the Bernie platform on Israeli/Palestinian issues.

I don't need to remind you, that as far as a good chunk of the world is concerned, Palestinians are animals, and suicide bombers, who murder children and drink their blood. This would further explain why we're more sympathetic toward Israel.

At one point in my life, I was conditioned to think about them in those terms, but then I started thinking for myself, and outside my box.
