How much life is left in the Labour Party?

Yet another disaster is set to take place for the party with polls showing that they may lose 125 seats in the Scottish council elections and control over the big cities. Of course the right wing media is blaming Corbyn but the Blairites in Scottish Labour are responsible for most of this. Is there any way back for the party in Scotland or the UK as a whole?

I think it's really short-sighted to blame Corbyn for the ills of the party. There is a much bigger world picture, and UK picture. What I wonder is how far we will swing to the right and what event may bring us back. If we follow history, I predict high unemployment, food shortages, civil unrest and, perhaps war.

Anybody blaming Corbyn is getting it from the media who are desperate to crush anything that is even slightly to the left. Labour have been ruined in Scotland by Blair's legacy and standing with the Tories during the referendum campaign. Now they try to act left while also trying to shout union as loud as possible with Ruth. They're a mess and there's not much Corbyn can do.

That's certainly the way it seems to me too. I don't think Blair has any inkling of the true damage he's done.

On the upside, the way things are developing, Scotland has a very real chance of breaking the union and remaining in the EU. I'd hate to see the UK break up, but the Scottish get punished enough without being forced out of the EU against their will too.

I can't wait for it.

Yeah, nobody would blame Scotland. I wanted you to stay last time. Not now. And if you're prepared to accept some English people who don't live far from the border, I'll renounce my Englishness and opt for being Scottish instead.

If you're the leader you have to lead !!
Don't put policy ideas across Facebook hoping to reach your core vote !
You have to get out there and talk to folk !
If the general consensus is that Bairism is dead, then you need an active alternative !
It would very very hard to go back to the old 'For the working man' ideology since they screwed that idea when they let the Tories have what ? 5 electoral wins in succession ? from '79 !
UNFORGIVABLE !!
So much employment law changed as a result TWO GENERATIONS have never known how effective a union can be in securing what used to be YOUR RIGHTS !
I know left wing politics is pretty dead around the world right now. But, Dammit !! There are still plenty of folk looking for work that want hope !
There are still plenty of old folk wanting to know their pensions are safe !
We're about to leave the E:U and not ONE idea of how to improve job growth; improve healthcare; investment in our OWN firms, securing jobs !!!!
Somebody somewhere has to get it together and thrash it out, because there's a large slice of the nation NOT being represented !!!

Of course but you can't support England in the World Cup.

@thatscottishguy: Oh, I forgot about that. Then again, it's not like England are any good. Deal.

All political parties do that. Corbyn talks across the media, though what we learn is through a lens of distortion.

Every attempt is made to distract from the policies.

@Burnley123: Kinda makes you wonder what the point is then !

@Picklebobble2: The point for me is to keep fighting. Things are never likely to be easy on the left.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Burnley123: I just think when things are so one sided it gives rise to extremes.
The last time Labour were this bad it gave rise to Thatcherism; Derek Hatton in Liverpool; ken Livingstone on the GLC; and it just fractures whatever hope the next generations has for it's future.

The only political groups in England that offer any kind of alternative are the greens and the Labour left.

What made strategic sense in the 80s is not now and the Labour right then was at least social democratic.

In addition, the status quo itself is not popular. As witnessed by Brexit and Trump. A leftward change can be framed as extremists but what if it is the only thing that makes sense?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
You think perhaps we need an extreme in order to have it rejected and so 're-calibrate'(for want of a better term)?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Picklebobble2: What is extreme about Corbyn's policies?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Nothing. That might be the problem ! That's what i'm saying. I don't for one minute think Corbyn will make it to be the Labour leader going into the next election. That's half the problem !!
