Help please: What is a 'liberal' in US politics? Democrat or Republican or something different?

Democrats and liberals are a bit different. You're right about the Green party though. That's liberal.

@Mountainlady16: No. It's not liberal in the common definition. Libertarians want less government involvement. So they may be "liberal" about things like legalized weed, because they don't want the government telling them what to do, but they're not liberal in terms of things like social programs to help people. They're a bit more of "every man for himself."
