Will Trump's continuing disregard for the truth destroy completely whatever remains of his credibility ?

The conservative-leaning Wall Street Journal has an editorial out today with serious criticisms of President Trump for his “seemingly endless stream of exaggerations, evidence-free accusations, implausible denials and other falsehoods.”

The crux of the editorial concerns the president’s wiretapping claim that has been refuted by a number of intelligence officials and the heads of the House and Senate Intel Committees. Yet, in the words of the Journal, Trump “clings to his assertion like a drunk to an empty gin bottle.”

The editorial board concluded: "Two months into his Presidency, Gallup has Mr. Trump’s approval rating at 39%. No doubt Mr. Trump considers that fake news, but if he doesn’t show more respect for the truth most Americans may conclude he’s a fake President."

Politicians have always been known for being deceptive, but until now, the actual truth did matter. Now we've reached post-truth politics. A significant number of people don't even want to know what the truth is anymore.

When the truth becomes irrelevant we really are living in dangerous times. It's good to see that the FBI are also looking into how alt-right websites like Breitbart were disseminating fake news , also at the behest of the Russians , during critical moments during the campaign.
