What is ObamaCare and why is it so good/bad?

Speaking as someone from the UK, I have no idea what ObamaCare is. Why did Obama create it and why does Trump want to get rid of it?

Many on here will say that the small fine one is required to pay for not being insured makes the entire thing an outrage- funny thing is the new version being passed will charge a significantly larger penalty at the time that one decides to purchase the insurance making it a potentially prohibitive cost- either way every other civilized country of any standing in the rest of the world has some form of universal healthcare offered- I think that the only real arguement against it is that the US attracts the best and most talented physicians because we're the only place that has the unlimited earning potential- but if you can't afford to benefit from it it doesn't matter- also the politicians of course have a medical benefits package that is incredible- go figure

The NEW RYAN plan will increase premiums for seniors 759 percent. And eliminate coverage all together for many working poor and Disabled people. Its basically the begining of economic genocide

My son is about to turn 18 and be in college- if he can't stay on my insurance I'm having him utilize the ER and put as many expenses on credit cards as possible- I'll pay for the banktrupsy following graduation- five years later he'll be back in good standing- sooner then he'd have the debt paid- isn't that the example those in office are telling us is "smart"

We'll see- I'm not holding my breath on anything- I'm glad enough people were in the same boat and got them to revisit that portion of it

I'm hoping they agree to hold onto the preexisting clauses and ability to keep your children insured features....which I imagine they will. They are huge for many. Beyond that I think people are going to be quite disappointed when they don't see any dramatic change in premiums..it might slow the increase a bit for the middle class but if you read through the provisions of this plan it is definitely tailored for the wealthy.

They increased my premiums before "Obamacare" was ever actually in place- was that proactive- preemptive? Who knows- what I do know is a lot more people are blaming the ACA then the private insurance companies- I don't know if there was legitimate justification for it or if the insurance companies themselves seized an opportunity to impose major increases- the worst part is that I don't trust the private business- insurance companies- that exist to make money and serve themselves- or the politicians- that exist to make money and serve themselves- to ever provide a straight answer- I do know that children maintaining their parents insurance- coverage for preexisting conditions- and removal of the lifetime caps- made access a possibility for many that would never have had access to care- maybe I'm giving away my financial comfort level but I'm actually willing to myself pay more to have more covered- and to myself benefit from that increase if my situation changes

@Makemeluvit: Well you just summed up the whole premise behind there being any kind of insurance in the first place. Insurance of any kind isn't just for our protection but also for the protection of others. People that are uninsured aren't immune to injury and disease..and like you said earlier doctors and hospitals won't turn them away because they've taken an oath that says they can't. So who foots the bill for them? People with insurance. And you're right....premium hikes were a reality long before Obamacare. Especially if you had to get it out of the individual market.

@StrangeWorld: I can say there was a really big spike right before the ACA was implemented- what frustrates me is nobody is demanding justification from the insurance companies directly- proving that their costs actually increased comparatively
[c=#BF0080]My premiums didn't go up until after Obamacare.[/c]

@Makemeluvit: Lol, I'm sure even if asked that they would have been able to throw together something with just enough confusing bullshit to make whoever asked just say "never mind".

@Pinkrainbowkisses: maybe yours fell behind the curve but nobody- not the insurance companies or the politicians- ever provide any proof that doesn't serve their own interests so we continue to have to pay everybody whatever they tell us we owe them without any explanation

And I'm the most moderate person ever when it comes to politics- I truly believe that they're all totally fucked

@Makemeluvit: What can you do? Embrace the distractions. These days I just focus on the solace I take in the revival of the King Kong franchise.

@StrangeWorld: open a brothel in the middle of a pot farm and traffic illegal drugs- weapons- and immigrants?

@Makemeluvit: I was thinking a bordertown along the Great Wall. I bet I could find cheap ladies to fill the brothel.

I wonder how much untaxed money we could make before we have to start paying the government to look the other way 👀🤣

@Makemeluvit: Are you kidding? The primary source of income would probably be the government 🙄
