Was "fake news" a thing before Trump needed an excuse for why the news about himself and his actions was so unflattering?

You don't know what 'fake news' is, do you? You don't see that Trump took a phrase that means something completely different and spun it to serve his own needs. And that's to get people like you to not believe what REAL journalists report.

And that's the problem with anti-Trumpers, they will lie, spin the truth or ignore it completly in order to serve their own purposes.

Fake news is made up. Period. It's written with the intention of spreading lies. It EXISTS because we live in a stupid country where a headline is all that's needed. I know a bit about this because of my job. There is NO legitimate news source working in America today that reports 'fake news.' Do outlets make mistakes? Yeah. They do. And that's because human beings make mistakes. But "fake news" is something entirely different. Well, it was until Trump highjacked the phrase so the more intellectually challenged would believe him instead of the truth.

Like the magazine covers you see in the grocery line proclaiming that this or that scandalous thing has befallen one celebrity or another.
I guess that's about the same level of "news" that trump has been circulating.
Not sure that applies the "fake news" he's been complaining about though
