Which political party do you think has benefited more, politically, from the racial divide in America? Republicans or Democrats?

I have to wonder, if we could end racism completely, and if everyone [i]knew[/i] that there was no more racism, what would happen to the Democratic party? I suppose they would turn their focus to keeping abortion legal, trying to help the poor, environmental conservation, and probably attacking organized religion (Christianity in particular). But wouldn't it take a lot of the wind out of their sails if racism was no longer an issue?
