If you didn't like the Christian Right, what are you really not going to like?

The Post-Christian Right – which is what we have now:

“When cultural conservatives disengage from organized religion, they tend to redraw the boundaries of identity, de-emphasizing morality and religion and emphasizing race and nation. Trump is both a beneficiary and a driver of that shift. So is the alt-right.” ~ Rod Dreher, in “The Douthat Scenario Is Coming True” [c=#BF0000]http://bit.ly/2meGm7x[/c]

That is what is left as those Christians, who have not been secularized by the culture, withdraw:

“The long-standing conservative narrative held that America is fundamentally decent but that those decencies are being eroded by an elite that subscribes to non-American, and even anti-American, values. The simultaneous political success of conservatism and ruination of American culture has made this view untenable. Now, a more radical possibility is opening up. Traditional Christians now wonder if a just and righteous society must be built in opposition to a national creed that has led inexorably to libertinism..... the task at hand is the creation of a distinctive Christian culture amid the ruins of the American republican experiment. If there is to be a recovery, it will have to take place during the decline of the American imperium. Perhaps, if some restoration of culture is successful, a political remedy may present itself. But all agree that any national political recovery is secondary, and perhaps ultimately unrelated, to the effort to build Christian communities in a corrupt social order.” ~ Patrick J. Deneen, in “Moral Minority” [c=#BF0000]http://bit.ly/2mDq3MP[/c]

as a committed christian i can honestly say i dislike the right wing conservative Christians. they have a hgt level of extremism and seem to have a low level of intelligence. they all to often forget the love of God and focus on judgement. i am super happy that i found God but that doesn't mean i have the right to shove my values down your throat.

Thank you. I was raised Catholic and have come to recoil from Christianity, which tends to be of the evangelical type around me.

I'm so glad for you that you've found something comforting, safe and inspiring. And if I ask, I hope you'd be willing to share your journey. But wait for me to ask. If you're doing it right (I use the general 'you'), your example will draw me in.
