Why do liberals/leftists have a visceral hatred of Christianity even though it has almost no influence today ?

The core liberal belief is that the human person is the ultimate source of freedom and goodness, and so must be emancipated not only from restrictive political and social systems but from the Church, religion and even God Himself. Thus liberalism is above all a spiritual rebellion – not just a political or social ideology. On the surface it seems odd that liberals in the postmodern era tend to identify with the cause of Islam, since that faith is antithetical to most liberal values. But Islam has long been the sworn enemy of Christianity, and it is Christianity with which liberalism has been at war for three centuries.

Yuuuuuge generalization and exaggeration

I don't.

I am an atheist but not an anti-theist.

In Britain, the church is a good thing and mostly concerned with worship and charity work. In America it does that but also forms the backbone of a religious hard right. That part I don't like.

@Burnley123: In England, and when it comes to Christianity, it's still mostly about the Church of England.

In the US, it's not that simple, and I would not bundle all the Christian Churches. The Evangelicals, who count born-again among their ranks, form the backbone of the Christian right. They also don't think Catholics are "Christian". Catholics, are the most liberal, but some Hispanics (mostly Catholics), are single issue voters: abortion, hence the larger than expected Trump support. The other factor for this group, is Cuban Americans, who voted in large number for Trump, because Hillary was planning on using one of her magic potions, to Bring Fidel Castro back, re-unite him with his son, the Prime Minister of Canada, and let him rule the US and Canada.
