Why do liberals/leftists have a visceral hatred of Christianity even though it has almost no influence today ?

The core liberal belief is that the human person is the ultimate source of freedom and goodness, and so must be emancipated not only from restrictive political and social systems but from the Church, religion and even God Himself. Thus liberalism is above all a spiritual rebellion – not just a political or social ideology. On the surface it seems odd that liberals in the postmodern era tend to identify with the cause of Islam, since that faith is antithetical to most liberal values. But Islam has long been the sworn enemy of Christianity, and it is Christianity with which liberalism has been at war for three centuries.

I have to disagree with you there. It might not look like it, but Christianity does have an influence today. A lot of Christians are tired of things like abortion, a lot of Christians are boycotting Disney, you know even with the LBTQ community. They're just tired and I think that's why a lot of Liberals hate Christianity. Because Christianity goes against a lot of the things that they believe in.
I think liberals always like to feel they are fighting a revolution --but the revolution is over -- they won. They are the elite. They are the political class. Liberals are in control of the major institutions. Liberals control the State. Corporate America is on your side. The federal judiciary is in your camp as is the European Union. Trump is doing a little rebellion because he was able to get Christian electoral support -- but in the long run it is not that big of a danger to your agenda. In fact it is probably helpful because fighting him gets that revolutionary fervor going.

Liberals are not always going to be in control, because despite the progressive/Whig theory of history --history is not a great inevitable march toward the light of liberalism. Your time will come --but for now you have won.

Liberalism is the establishment.

Apart from the Presidency, Congress, The Supreme Court and most billionaires.

Even though what you listed SEEMS like a lot it's not a lot when compared to the liberal globalists.

@Jackjjacksonjr: Think about politics as economics, not culture. The essential divide is a class divide and you and I are both on the underdog side of that.

@Burnley123:

Understood. That was part of my "its not a lot" calculation.

@Burnley123: who has more influence on your life, most billionaires and Congress, or Hollywood and the mainstream media?

@Burnley123:

It is ironic as you point out with the presidency Supreme Court and uber wealth in the hands of the convservatives presently. However the establishment (moderate republicans liberals and democrats) opposed Trump. For this instant in time the liberal establishment got bitch slapped. Whether it was an aberrational blip remains to be seen.
Ysa9257,I agree with you that there is residual Christian resistance by the remnant, count me in -- but it is ludicrous to act like they are able to put up any significant fight against the secular steamroller, which keeps gaining power and speed since it erupted in France in 1789.

They think they are fooling us that how all powerful they feel.
