Why do liberals/leftists have a visceral hatred of Christianity even though it has almost no influence today ?

The core liberal belief is that the human person is the ultimate source of freedom and goodness, and so must be emancipated not only from restrictive political and social systems but from the Church, religion and even God Himself. Thus liberalism is above all a spiritual rebellion – not just a political or social ideology. On the surface it seems odd that liberals in the postmodern era tend to identify with the cause of Islam, since that faith is antithetical to most liberal values. But Islam has long been the sworn enemy of Christianity, and it is Christianity with which liberalism has been at war for three centuries.

Why do some people like to make such sweepingly generalized statements, like "Why do liberals/leftists have a visceral hatred of Christianity even though it has almost no influence today ?"

Do you believe in God?

How is this question remotely related to my statement? How is the belief in God specific to Christianity (the thread's topic)?

If, on the other hand, you intent is to get a better understanding of who I am, I would think you would know by now, having sifted through my profile more than a dozen times.

@Northwest:

Hmmmmm

How is "do you believe in God?" related to Christianity?

Ummmmmm Christians generally believe in God.

Do you believe in God?

Take several deep breaths, resist the natural inclination to be argumentative, perhaps even think if necessary and then type yes or no.

Once you've completed what should be an easy task for an honest person then feel free to let go with the usual smarminess.

It looks like you need some schooling.

When you say
How is "do you believe in God?" related to Christianity?
You're lying, because this is not what I said. I said "How is this question remotely related to my statement?"

The second part of my statement:
How is the belief in God specific to Christianity (the thread's topic)?
The key word is "specific". A lot of religions are based on belief in a "God" or multiple "Gods".

Do you get it now?

@Jackjjacksonjr: still not a answer, but you seem to be obsessed with my penis. To each their own, but I don't swing that way.
