I'm not going to hang around for the hate fest on this thread, and I get your point about word choice.

But what Trump is doing is not the same thing as other Presidents from both sides, who have asked for U.S. Attorneys' resignations and then set up a process to replace them in due course so as to avoid crippling the DOJ and messing with the personal lives of people who've been working for much less money than they could be making in the private sector.

True to his word, Trump is "draining the swamp" and deconstructing the parts of the administrative state that he objects to, in the case, the Department of Justice.

These guys were told to clear out their desks immediately, causing a real mess for their local offices. It WILL affect pending prosecutions and investigations negatively, whether this is a good thing or a bad thing.

Personally, I think its bad, whether or not the obvious fact that some of them, like the guy in New York may have had investigations into Trump or his friends ongoing had anything to do with it.

It should, however, make things easier for Trump, since, at least for awhile at least, he'll have a few less people with ethical obligations he doesn't understand or appreciate in the way of his agenda. Hopefully, Sessions can find replacements who fit the new litmus tests, whatever they may be.

When the president's change the US attorneys change. Business as usual. Don't make nothing into a crusade 😇
@Jackjjacksonjr: I'm not crusading, but this really wasn't business as usual. I know people in the US attorneys offices, and doing things this way was definitely unusual, regardless of the reasons for it.

@Misty71:

Regardless. They still are better off than had they had to deal with Mrs Clinton.
@Jackjjacksonjr: I sincerely doubt that the families of the men and women laid off without any notice in the middle of the school year think so. Nor will the people who get files dumped on them as a result of this.

Even if you buy that Hillary was crooked, she was the kind of "establishment" crook who tended to have some concern for keeping the government functioning. Trump seems to be delivering on his promises of deconstructing the government, but my guess is, we're all going to regret some of that.

@Misty71: Unusual, disorganized, chaotic. Exactly why the word choice to describe the transition was "ousts".
@windinhishair: Actually, I'm thinking I misspoke. Disorganized and chaotic seems pretty usual for this administration.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Misty71: Indeed, it is becoming the norm, part of the plan to completely blow up the government so it cannot function.
@windinhishair: That is what Bannon said he wanted to do.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
@Misty71:

That sounds like a description of Mrs Clinton's drunken tirade when she was informed of the loss.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Misty71: Indeed, that is but one of many of Bannon's objectives. Wars with Iran and China are also desired.
@Jackjjacksonjr: I was never a Hillary fan, Jack. In fact, I was pretty frustrated that Biden wouldn't run, especially when I saw the mess of Republicans and how none of them could cope with Trump.

But, just like we didn't have Tricky Dick, now we don't have Hillary to kick around anymore. Just DJT.

@Misty71:

Biden would have won in a LANDSLIDE.
@windinhishair: Honestly, I tuned out listening to him after awhile, because he came off like a lunatic and I was getting nauseous listening to him talk.

But here's some food for thought on this whole thing. Replacing a democracy with a dictatorship is actually a pretty difficult thing. The key is to use your scapegoats well. Bannon's looking for his Reichstag fire, something to blame on the liberals and justify trading away legislative power for executive.

So far, Trump's just flailing about, but eventually, he might find some ammunition. That's really what I'm worried about, not stupid decisions on firing government employees or even in fights inside of the Republican party.

Those who oppose Trump need to be REALLY careful, because he's looking and waiting for an opportunity.
@Jackjjacksonjr: 😂 That Biden quip was CRUEL, Jack. Really cruel, even though I'm not so sure you're right. Trump's damn good at what he does and I'm not sure Biden would have known how to handle him better than anyone else.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
@Misty71:

I hope and believe you're being somewhat paranoid and dramatic. My suspicion is that Bannon will be out in less than a year. Jared and Ivanka have the lost influence and they are traditionalists and fear exactly that to which you refer. All the talk about President Obama wanting to be a dictator was just that - talk.

The old guard is definitely lashing out in its death throes. Beginning in 2024 the government power will be in the hands of people born in the 1970's and a whole new world. For the better.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
@Misty71:

It wasn't a quip. I truly believe that Biden would have won easily. People actually find him likable. Despite the constant pressure for "change" (represented by Sanders and the president) Biden's inate likebility would have put him over the top. He relates better in PA, OH, MI and WI.
@Jackjjacksonjr: Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean theyre not out to get me, you know? 😜

I hope you're right. Revolutions tend to be hard on citizens and I kind of like some things about government.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
@Misty71:

I hear you are agree with that expression completely. There are some things government does well that we need.
@Jackjjacksonjr: Biden would have made for an interesting race, but the key now is to find younger blood, just like you did. Ryan's a snake, but I'd have preferred him to Trump.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
@Misty71:

Ryan I dint trust not a little bit. He is one of THEM. Part of the swamp to be drained. The president is using Ryan to get the president's agenda done.
