Why did House Republicans vote to keep President Trump's tax returns secret ?

House Republicans voted en masse to block a resolution that would have forced Trump to turn his tax returns over to Congress on Monday night.
The measure was introduced by Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee. Under a 1924 law, the Ways and Means Committee is empowered to examine tax returns. The committee could then decide to release them to the full Congress, effectively making them public.
Trump has broken with decades of precedent and refused to release his tax returns, citing an ongoing audit.

1.1 million people have signed an online petition calling for the returns to be released, and 74 percent of Americans in a January poll say Trump should now release his taxes.

Probably because the American public does not need any more fuel for the fire of dislike and distrust in the president.
Does that presume something dishonest would've been revealed ? 🤔

This is the man who demanded the previous president, who was vetted before he even ran for office, produce two birth certificates. I couldn't possibly dislike or distrust Trump any more than I do. The fact that the GOP refuses to hold him accountable confirms that they're complicit and not trustworthy, either.
@bijouxbroussard: i don't really think dishonesty bothers most of the people who voted for him. We're in the post facts age, remember?

Trump doesn't really make his lying a secret, be just attacks anyone who calls him on it. And a lot of people admire the fact that he doesn't get hung up on facts.

I can't really argue with that , no matter how incredible it sounds. It really is a whole new ball game when you have a President who is a pathological liar and his supporters who couldn't care less.
@pezzza: I have noticed that anytime I disagree or have a different opinion of pro Trump people they also Attack with name calling and bullying. They don't discuss to understand they argue to win.

@softspokenman: Which probably explains why they identify with Trump so much. ;)

@pezzza: Change the word trump to obama and you understand our issues over the last 8 years.

@MasterLee: Well you certainly have issues , that much is true.

@MasterLee: Stay on topic. Your attempt to deflect is useless here.

@freedomrider: Ok, no reason to show tax returns. No law requiring it. Your argument is moot. No need for deflections.

@MasterLee: It's called a subpoena to the IRS.

@freedomrider: Good luck on that
@MasterLee: Good point. Sending a subpoena to the IRS is usually pretty futile.
