Well, I could list a series of things that are great about the U.S. but I get your point.
The fact is that 'patriotism' has been highjacked by some of those in power and disseminated to their supporters as a means of distinction. You're either "with us or against us." If you question America's policies or point to other countries successes you're labeled unpatriotic. I think it's own of the most powerful tools going to get people to vote and act against what's in their personal best interest.
"Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.”

@UnparalleledMonster: They do. But they don't matter.
And just to toss this out there, if someone from another country came up to this Progressive American's face and started badmouthing my country there's a good chance I'd drop him. I'm proud of where I live despite it's problems. Just like I imagine you're proud of where you live despite it being imperfect.

@Ynotisay:
Yeah probably. It's one thing to talk shit about your own country. Different if someone else is doing it
