It is illegal for private citizens to interfere with US foreign affairs, so depending on exactly what the calls involved, there could have been illegal acts committed.

@Subsumedpat: Agreed. That's my point. The big deal is that a crime may very well have been committed. Find out what the truth is and go from there.
