Thank God! Now Pedro won't make enough money to adequately feed his kids tonight. Yay. Now Maria, who works three jobs with two of them in the US won't have the means to care for her diabetic child. Yay. Now Charlie can't get back to the only high school he's found that actually teaches a future. Yay. Now there are no more gas-powered engines. Or fruit. Or clean laundry. Or buildings. Or the right medical specialist. Or the child who will one day colonize Mars or cure cancer.

Yeah, illegal immigration is just that, but it's also not murder. And yes, many people were targeted for criminal histories. Keep in mind, though, that unprosecuted murder and petit larceny are both criminal histories but exists at opposite ends of the spectrum. We give every single citizen a chance to turn his or her life around without judging them on their legal past. Why would we not extend our sacred arm of democracy and mercy to others? You don't convict and deport people for crimes they may one day commit. Not this week.

Want to stop illegal immigration? Fix the system, make the process better and more efficient. Rarely do people commit a crime when the legal option is just as simple.
