Is Separation of Powers Important?

Or is the President always right and everyone should follow in lockstep?

Separation of powers is important. Nobody was confused about it when Obama was president.

That was tyranny
@abe182: Why was that tyranny? Because it was even-handed and not just targeting women and people of color ?
Greathands01 · 61-69, M
@abe182: Define tyranny
abe182 · 46-50, M
@bijouxbroussard: I think you're a little near sighted.
abe182 · 46-50, M
@Greathands01: unlimited authority or use of power, or a government which exercises such power without any control or limits
Greathands01 · 61-69, M
@abe182: I know the dictionary definition. I meant in relation to Obama. What made you think he was Tyranny? When did he have unlimited authority or use of power and exercise such power without limits?
abe182 · 46-50, M
@Greathands01: where did Obama care originate in? The house or the Senate? The whole thing was tyranny!
If you ask what's that matter, it matters greatly my friend.
Greathands01 · 61-69, M
Actually, it originated at the Heritage Foundation. So, you think giving people access to health care is tyranny?
@abe182: And so I am. But only in the literal sense (cleans glasses). Politically I see things quite clearly. Obama went to Executive Orders after obstructionism from the GOP and their stated goal to make him a "one-term" president, and their willingness to shut down the entire government out of spite. Trump said of him, "executive orders are major power grabs of authority.” So what changed when Trump started signing them, hand over fist, without even listening to the Republicans who asked him to reconsider. ? How is that not tyranny ?
@Greathands01: Absolutely right. And when Romney proposed it, the GOP was right on board.

@abe182: I was living in China when the whole ACA thing started. People were raving about tyranny, which I found hilarious. Only a spoiled, clueless American could consider that tyranny. Tyranny is when people disappear in the middle of the night because they said something negative about the government. Tyranny is being sent to labor camps without being charged with a crime. Tyranny is being dragged off and given an abortion while actively fighting. Grow up.
@Laifu1: Tyranny is when someone who's been a legal resident in a country, has a green card, family, work, a life in the U.S. discovers she or he can't return home from vacation visiting relatives, because the new president has decided to place that country on an arbitrary ban "because of 9/11" while countries like Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan are exempt because of Trump's business interests.
abe182 · 46-50, M
@Laifu1: I completely agree with you. Obama was approaching tyranny. What you refer to and have witnessed is complete tyranny and I do not confuse the two. Please understand that.
@abe182: He was not. You (and others) only saw it that way because you couldn't accept him in the position of your leader in the first place. That's the only reason you'd ever call Obama a tyrant while accepting Trump's actions so docilely, and you know it !

@bijouxbroussard: Oh,I completely agree. This is terrifying.

@abe182: Obama was bad but Trump is not? I would love to hear the reasoning behind that.

@bijouxbroussard: Well said!!!

@Greathands01: Perhaps you missed the pen and phone rule. You know the exercise of power not granted to the president by the constitution. obama was even arrogant enough to state "I just made law" and then laugh. I'm not saying every EO was unconstitutional but many were and his party protected him and the other party didn't have the balls to make a federal case of it. Now we've got trump, who is most certainly undoing those the courts didn't overturn.
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
Don't you mean king.
@GunSmoke9: Trump believes he's one, that is true. And his supporters behave as if he is one, too.
Greathands01 · 61-69, M
@Shattered: EO's have been used by Presidents since Washington, so clearly Obama was not the first. Granted, he was the first Black President to use them. But please be specific. Which EO(s) did Obama write that violated the Constitution?
GunSmoke9 · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard: How many times have the courts had to rein in Obama? Strange for someone who was a constitutional lawyer.
katielass · F
@Greathands01: All of the ones the courts either overturned or ordered him to stop implementing. I am confident that obamas skin colour had absolutely nothing to do with the courts decisions against him and the fact that you attempt to play the defunct race card demonstrates your lack of knowledge and confidence in his use of the EO.
@GunSmoke9: Probably not as many lawsuits in 8 years as Trump has been facing in about 2 and a half weeks, don't you think ? Like Abe, you only have one reason for this double standard, and you both know it. You're not fooling anyone. You're hypocrites at best.

@bijouxbroussard: thank you for resorting to name calling. You can ask me if I'm a racist if you want. I'll let you. You may not want the answer tho.
