What struck me, (and I would regularly mention it to the MAGA crowd on here), is their absolute adherence to the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
The reason they are SO determined to keep that right is because it's the only Amendment that includes the line "shall not be infringed." No other Amendment carries that cast iron guarantee.
However, that Amendment was written in order to protect the rights of ordinary Americans to repel exactly the form of Federal tyranny Trump tried to enforce. Its intent is framed to check Federal power, ensure collective security, and enable state militias against potential tyranny or standing armies.
So, where were those well regulated Militias to protect citizens from, say, ICE, or the evident abuses of the Constitution by the Trump Administration? What is the purpose of the right to bear arms if a teacher can be murdered in the street by armed Federal agents with no repercussions?
Unfortunately, the Founders didn’t forsee that half the electorate would actively celebrate that Federal tyranny and even encourage more of it.
