I really wish if things were broken and unsatisfactory fixing it was a simple as voting for the other candiate

and giving the other asshole in the race a chance. but it's not.
The people who think it is are living in a land of magical thinking. Oregon is broken currently, it can be fixed but it needs a lot of work. Voting for Drazan isn't going to fucking fix it. yeah the economy is broken and bad and the schools are failing and colleges need to be pressured to teach teachers to instruct the science of reading methods covered in the Sold a story podcast.

the institutions of higher learning are failing to comply in that regard.

The state is in the shitter, not everything is broken but a lot needs repair
suggesting voting red will improve it is like saying that if we just wave a unobtainable fairy wand everything will get better. but it won't

mark my words if Chrisitne Drazan is our Next governor not a damn thing will improve.

No place is perfect. Some are more effed up than others.
This is why voters all over the world are in a "throw the bums out" mood. A change won't fix everything but at least will be an improvement. The Democrats look like they will have a majority in the next Congress, mainly due to how badly Trump is doing his job.

@LeopoldBloom Trump is the rare case of something the President is doing is actually keeping gasoline prices up too, the war with Iran is largely a choice he made and the closure of the strait is a direct consequence of his actions too. POTUS is almost never truly responsible for the economy but gets blamed anyway all the time.
@PDXNative1986 I agree, the Iran war was a colossal mistake. I think what happened is that after the thing in Venezuela, where our guys went in, grabbed Maduro, installed a US puppet, and left, Trump thought that could be replicated in Iran. Knock off the Supreme Leader and boom, the Shah is back. Either his advisors are idiots or he didn't listen to them. So we did get regime change, from the mullahs to the IRGC.

And now Trump's popularity is plummeting, with other Republicans asking him not to campaign with them, and the only question is how well the Democrats will do in November.
