Rick Springfield Killed a Man While Entertaining Troops During Vietnam War.
Rick Springfield spent several months performing for troops in Vietnam. During that trip, the then-teenage musician found himself caught in an attack — and claims one of the mortars he fired killed a man.
During one overnight stay at a Navy encampment near Marble Mountain outside Da Nang, the base came under attack. Springfield was in the radio shack while his bandmates sheltered in perimeter bunkers. After soldiers confirmed there were no friendly forces in the area, Springfield said he was invited to load mortars into a firing tube.
“It was John Wayne time,” Springfield recalled, explaining that as a teenager he didn’t fully understand what he was doing. Yeah, right. He fired roughly five or six mortars during the attack. The next morning, soldiers told him one had struck a Viet Cong fighter.
“The hardest thing for me was that I’d thrown a mortar down and it had hit somebody.” He said the knowledge has remained difficult for him to process nearly six decades later. I believe you, you two-faced sonavabitch.
These are the famous entertainers who performed for troops in Vietnam: Bob Hope, Ann Margaret, Sammy Davis Jr,
Raquel Welch.
Jane Fonda did not perform for U.S. troops in Vietnam, but she did sing a local anti-war song for North Vietnamese hosts and soldiers during her controversial 1972 visit to Hanoi. Fuck her too.
I have nothing to do with Vietnam which was before my time. Mine is the time of the Iran war. I helped load the Tomahawk missiles launched from the USS Spruance that struck the Minab School and killed more than 120 school children when I voted for Donald Trump. Those Americans who did not vote for Trump, fuck you too.
