What is a "right trajectory"?
The word trajectory comes from the branch of Physics called Theoretical Mechanics - the study of mass, force and motion.
It means the course taken by an object that has been propelled into flight by an initial force, followed without further control, but acted against by external forces.
E.g. a thrown ball, a bullet from a gun, an arrow from a bow, or indeed a ballistic missile (rocket). Their trajectories once released from the operator's aim and the propelling force are set primarily by speed, mass, gravity and air resistance.
In other words,
something or someone "on a trajectory", by definition has no way to control its own destiny.
So is the metaphor appropriate...?
