Like Demented Donnie, I, too, spent several hours in the very early morning on line with my colleagues in the South Korean military & medical communities. Trump used his early morning hours to tweak nonsense and fuel his progressive dementia.
We talked about The Iranian War: their feeling is that this is not their war. There is no incentive for them to support in any fashion (troops, money, logistics, etc.) as there is no foreseeable benefit to them, it places them at increased adversarial posture to regional opponents (most noticeably: China), Trump attacking Iran does not obligate them as they have a mutual defensive pact only if attacked). It’s absolutely vital to realize that our troops are in South Korea to serve as a deterrent NOT JUST TO NK, BUT ESPECIALLY TO CHINA. Leaving South Korea weakens our national defense in a very important region.
Cancelled joint military exercises: they opined that South Koreans enjoyed the demonstration of America’s support against their ever present, nearby foes. That strong show of force has always been comforting and kept the threat posture lower for the most part. Many South Koreans have relatives in the North and really would like re-unification; they see Trump as jeopardizing efforts toward re-unification.
The drawing down of US troops in South Korea: they saw this as a very clear indication that Trump would sell out their country to KJU in a heartbeat.
