There's a New Puppy Killer in Town and It Sure Isn't Kristi Noem.

@BohoBabe Point 1: The Daily Mail is noted for shouting first and asking later! It loves to be a campaigner and does sometimes exaggerate for effect.

Unfortunately I was unable to read the reference so do not know what it actually printed.

However, if that report is accurate...

2: Farm animals are normally bred and cared for properly, for food; and should be slaughtered humanely. I see no problem with that: we are omnivores after all.

3: Were these animals stray or abandomned ones?

Cats and dogs are not normal food for humans. With a few exceptions for dogs, feral cats controlling rodents in farm-yards and training falcons to control other birds, emotion including fashion is our only reason for owning pets.

Consequently, far too many animals of many species stray, are released accidentally - or are abandoned when the fluffy-puppy soppiness evaporates, fashion changes or the owners were too lazy to know their responsibility before buying the animal.

If these "lost" creatures survive and find mates, they may breed; very dangerously in the case of dogs; ecologically harmful with some other animals; more a nuisance with cats.


So why were so many killed (if the allegation is correct)?

Were they all strays, feral or abandoned, as I suspect?

If so, we have to ask why were there so many that the city council had no choice but to kill them.

Of course I hope they were put down humanely.


[I used to work in a large, enclosed site that had a population of feral cats. These were looked after by a local animal charity, to help keep down pestilential rodents. When the site was being prepared for sale the charity had them all neutered so in due course they and the new owners would not become problems to each other. I don't know if any of these cats were found new homes, but they were not house-trained of course.]

Sure, but morally speaking, there's no difference between killing cats, dogs, cows, or chickens.

RFK got some heat because he ate a dog. I despise RFK, but I think it's super hypocritical to get mad at him for that when eating animals is the norm.

@BohoBabe Humans can survive as vegans, yes, by personal choice. Biologically we can eat meat as well.

I have no idea if "RFK" ate dog-meat. He might have done if he'd visited China, perhaps. I don't regard that as particularly relevant though.
