How has being a liberal, moderate, or conservative gone for you when you lived among others with different political opinions?
Say in a certain town or village, city or even county? My experience as a liberal center left social democrat ideology surprisingly has not caused too many problems. There are liberals and moderates here but the few people who I know are republicans have not been mean to me. So it either comes to healthy debate and friendly or polite on a surface level but slightly distant. My politics have not caused me to be targeted at all. It’s not the same for everyone but despite my town leaning moderately republican, most people don’t bother me. To be honest this is a pretty safe town and it’s quiet. Very low crime. Also a lot of legal gun owners ( including my father). I mean it’s not the most diverse place in the world but nobody from my neighborhood village ever called me names or harassed me. They have asked me if I wasn’t warm in a coat and scarf during the summer which was annoying but had nothing to do with politics. This is a place where people will drive by and wave even if they don’t know you sometimes but I’m not close with most of the people here. I can’t first hand as an adult if this place is gossipy because I’m not that involved in the local life. But I know it is by voting patterns like Bristol county and south coast Massachusetts are somewhat more republican than a good chunk of Massachusetts.if I had to vote ( I don’t vote though) I would have voted for Kamala Harris over trump anyday. Whereas even so most people are not too open about their politics save a few houses I have seen. I think these Massachusetts republicans are more economic conservatives than social conservatives. Although I have yet to see a same sex couple in the open in town although I have seen a gender nuetral or fluid person who yelled at me for calling them sir in line at the gas station. I was quite angry. We could use a little more diversity in our village. My elderly neighbors are republicans but the wife used to be a democrat when she was younger. A couple of years ago I was over their house and we talked politics and religion and about all sorts of things on their porch. The husband was formerly in the navy. They are like 70 something years old. Old people dont give a damn man. I also learned bubba is like a southern term for brother and is not a big guy in prison who is violent inmate that will rape you. That was awkward. My neighbor turned quiet and red before explaining bubba concept. What has it been like for you to live among your opposites?
