I live in trump country and republican leaning village but no one has bothered me yet

I have seen signs on mailboxes that said team trump. A flag that said I support ICE report all illegals. I have read on the back of someone’s car a bumper sticker that says I smell commies. And so many damn American flags. Granted no one has really bothered me and I never felt threatened in my village or persecuted. People will wave hello to you as they walk or drive by. I mean it’s disheartening to know that there are quite a few trump supporters around though and truthfully it’s a predominantly white neighborhood and blue collar area ( which there is nothing wrong with to be blue collar like working in skilled trades. ) I will say this the south coast of Massachusetts and Bristol county are pretty conservative for Massachusetts it is heavily Pentecostal and Catholic. I am pretty open about what I believe in and nobody has bothered me so far. Many people commute for work and you need a car to get around. It is mixed with white collar professional types and mostly older people and families with young kids. I don’t think trump supporters or republicans are necessarily evil. Just misinformed and sometimes these are people who felt left behind by the mainstream political establishment. The surrounding bigger towns have high unemployment rates and not very educated population but it is still expensive to live. I live in a semi rural suburban area. One or two towns over it is rural and houses are spaced out. I don’t like that people voted for trump and I’m not crazy about the Republican Party but I’m willing to hear people out about why they vote the way they do and what causes them to belief certain things. I have republicans in my own family and my sister voted trump over Kamala Harris. I was disappointed. In my sister not going to lie but I am not going to stop loving her or mistreat her because of her politics. She is a moderate conservative where as I am a social democrat. It’s close to democratic socialism but not quite because it is still a form of capitalism.. my point is different types of people can learn to coexist with each other even if they don’t agree with one another. One reason my sister voted for trump was she didn’t want her money to fund someone cutting their boobs off for transgender surgery or sex reassignment surgery. My sister thinks being a trans person is a mental illness and delusion. She knows I’m intersex and that is very different but she thinks that trans people need mental help. She compared it to someone identifying as a different age than they are. That’s extreme. We have spirited discussions and I have tried to explain to her the science behind transsexualism.but yeah variety keeps thing interesting right? She refuses to pander to delusion. She told me and she would simply use the persons current name to refer to them but she is not calling someone who is a she a he or vice versa. As far as intersex people she thinks they can pick which sex they want to be male or female. She doesn’t think there are enough intersex people to put other options on legal documents. I think there should be other options on legal documents while she thinks it should just be male or female. Interesting conversations but sometimes I think damn how are we related? She also believes in secure borders but not the way ice is ripping apart families and putting people in cages.

@carpediem I mean people have the right to believe what they want ( obviously within reason) and I am not going to demonize someone just because they believe differently than me, but at least part of the trump support base has been researched to have felt left behind by mainstream politics. Sorry if was offensive. Well some republicans don’t attack others for their views, the way some democrats don’t either. I think we can agree harassing someone for their politics is just unacceptable behavior. There are some liberals and moderates here too and this town has a mix I think but it leans more republican than a good chunk of Massachusetts. I don’t look down on these people but sometimes feel baffled as to why they think the way they do but I am willing to hear them out.

has been researched to have felt left behind

No offense, but that's nonsense. Do you honestly believe that some partisan "research" operation should alter the way you look towards other people? That's incredibly shallow and short sighted.

I'm a conservative. No one has left me behind. The term "mainstream politics" in itself is elitist and ignorant. The country is governed by the people for the people. Liberal media on the coast does not speak for the vast majority of patriotic Americans across the country.

I'm disappointed you're parrotting leftist media instead of thinking for yourself. Herd mentality is the lowest form of intelligence. No one needs to allow you to "hear them out". No conservative cares what you think. Try accepting the fact that others have views significantly different than yours. And stop with the judging and virtue signaling.

@carpediem I’m not trying to judge or virtue signal. How am I parroting leftist media? I’m willing to hear people out to try to understand where they are coming from even if I don’t agree with them. I realize people will have different views from mine. I don’t know if I would agree the country is governed by the people for the people. I feel the ones with the power are the lobbyists and the corporations and of course politicians and powerful special interest groups. I don’t think the average person has as much power as they think. There is a lot of inequality and debt ( such as education, medical needs, etc.) for instance in this country and many people are struggling to make ends meet. I feel though the government is supposed to be for the people, it could really use an overhaul to be kinder and fairer. To my mind, America has some great qualities but it also could be better for quality of life and government priorities to actually take care of its people properly. That’s just what I think. No government or country is perfect though. As far as I know I think for myself and I think I have at least average intelligence. Anyway, thanks for the response.
We HAVE to take back the American flag. It can't be a symbol that only right-wingers display. Let them have the Confederate flag, we have to take back the American flag.

the difference between conservatives and liberals in most places is that if conservatives don't like your ideals, they'll just avoid you; many liberals on the other hand will go out of their way to harass you...

Apparently you never learned about paragraphs and how to use them.

But in general, Massachusetts is a deep blue Democratic stronghold.
Why would someone bother you?
