I am a social Democrat

I am a social Democrat. So I believe in capitalism and mixed economies. However, I believe in a strong welfare state with social safety nets. I believe in private property ( different from personal property in socialism) and markets but heavily regulated to protect the environment, promote fair wages and stop corporate monopolies. I believe in workers and labor rights: labor unions, safe working conditions, collective bargaining, and co determination. I believe in progressive taxation especially for corporations to pay larger shares of income to fund public goods and services. I believe in social equality such as social justice, human rights, anti discrimination and gender equality.

Universal healthcare coverage ( I’m ok with private insurance as an option but universal healthcare there as a backup. ) and social safety nets, government funded childcare,pre-k higher education being low cost to free, and paid family leave. I also believe in increasing taxes on the wealthy corporations, minimum wage increases, and shorter work weeks. I also believe in rent control, expansion of publicly built affordable housing, and strengthening labor unions. I also believe in climate action to invest in renewable energy and public transit. I believe in reducing the military budget, and reforming the criminal justice system. And reducing military aid to Israel I think. Although I want peace in the region so I’m not pro Palestine or pro Israel I’m pro-peace.

For example some countries that follow and practice social democracy are the Nordic countries like Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland. Other countries are in Western Europe. And Canada also uses social democracy principles.
