US folks, do you think southerners are still mad about sharing space with non-whites?

I am reading about US history. The confederates wanted to keep slavery because it was their economic engine, so Lincoln essentially impoverished them. Have they accepted that their wealth was other people's suffering or they are still mad about it?

Actually the North held onto the idea of slavery some 12 years after slavery ended in the south. The Civil War was much less about the south owning slaves........than it was the South resented growing everything...selling it for pennies to the north and the North sold that cotton on the world market..........making 99% of the profits........ands excluding the south of any of that.

ask people who live with minorities where crime rates are higher, theft is more common/stores lock up items, pandering protests are more common, drugs are more problematic, streets are dirtier, etc. 🤔
