Graham Platner Apparently Wasn't Worried About Losing the Armenian Vote.

Platner was essentially saying that it shouldn't be a "national shame" to have exterminated 75% of a minority population within your borders as the Ottoman Empire did to the Armenian population. You know, it's as if it's only 75%. Maybe if they had ovens and gas chambers they could have increased that percentage, but they didn't. WTF!
Can someone please tell me under what f*cking rock did Bernie find this guy and want him to be his colleague in the United States Senate?

I'm an Armenian American who's been living in Germany. I have found it tremendously impressive how bravely the Germans have come to terms with the atrocities of their past. This is a society that builds museums and monuments attesting to its own shame in the middle of its biggest cities, and they get all my respect for that.
Turkey should follow Germany's example and acknowledge the crimes of the Young Turks. That way they can move forward with integrity like the Germans have.

Goddamnit, no. Germany undertook a concerted effort at the national level, specifically backed up in numerous documents, to wipe the Jewish population within its borders from the face of the earth. All with the support of the German people, who had energetically supported the rampant anti-Semitism that was the cornerstone of Nazi rhetoric. While I'm no fan of the Turks, to say the actions of the Ottomans in relation to the Armenian population is the same is downright incorrect. While I do in fact believe it should be termed a genocide, to say Turks need to bury themselves in the national shame as the Germans have is just emotional pandering.
