My son lives out west and it is included with his apartment...which was strange to me since it isn't where I am...

I rented for a while in the Eastern US....electricity was included, but internet wasn't.
Miram · 31-35, F
@DragonFruit I can get not having access to the internet 🤔 But no electricity? Even plenty of developing countries don't have that problem
offingg · 31-35, F
I have lived in one of those countries you mentioned, and the apartment doesn't come with electricity or internet. It never really has as far as I know.

America is sht in general. There are places that include utilities but many don't, it's not a given thing and is highly dependent on area. More and more it's uncommon though.
It's just a mixture, it's no guarantee and no guarantee they will always be included even then. There's really relaxed rules on landlords in some areas

The Amish live without it by choice and they live where it gets cold in winter, we just don't see it as a necessity for life to exist like water and oxygen are

Same in refugee camps.
And no, it's not as easy as it may seem. You know very well how I lived growing up.
It is pretty much negligence.
Another point , it doesn't have to be like water and oxygen in order to be considered necessary. It is the bare minimum of an infrastructure.
There are plenty of people whose lives would depend on access to electricity, especially those who have impairments.
Seems like in some places in the US, even water isn't provided as part of the rent.

Hey. We pull ourselves up by the bootstraps here. If we can't pay for electricity, we go without. It's the american way.
Ask the old people eating cat food, they will tell you. Starve or freeze. Choose. Or...starve and freeze.

no such thing as a free lunch
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@StygianKohlrabi This isn't my post so I can't speak for Miram but utilities being included means that it is usually included with rent.
If countries have special programs that take care of their most vulnerable more power to them, but nobody said "free lunch."

@SatanBurger here water is included. I think I recall heating being included in the midwest. The USA has many programs for the needy. if electricity is included it's usually factored into the total, not free.
