Wrong approach. It should be removed and nothing replacing it. Both sides are guilty of wanting to create something else when nothing should have been there to begin with.
Those that create the speech should be held directly responsible. No one else. That is what law suits are for.
Service providers are a SERVICE. Nothing more. They shouldn't have any part of moderation.
Why is this important?
You put it into the hands of service providers they can even limit access to parts of the Internet. And some are doing just that! It's no longer just free speech. It's even Internet access to what the service providers find objectionable. Try finding any nnpt providers that are general service providers as well.
It's why I fought this in the 90s, tooth and nail.
Google hated usenet. So what did Google do? They flooded it with Spam by allowing the spam. They even went so far to buy out a Usenet provider... deja News. Yes it had no spam on the http version. You can even see that on googles Usenet archive.
So guess where everyone else went from NNTP? It's just like the switch from http to https! Google forced it by refusing to Index http.
Ask why ftp is no longer a browser function! It's the same thing. They position themselves to be apart of the standard then force the switch. Why is Google even apart of open source? So they can be in a position to force the issues.
Now guess what years all of this happened! It started in 1996 -99. Coincidence that is the years that section 230 happened and implemented?
