I'm sure the 'space race' was exciting -- two generations ago -- but this pathetic rerun?

Why is it pathetic this time around? You find it sad? Why?

@sree251 Because the Americans look like tortoises compared to their grandfathers.

By your terms, China. America may be first. But China will keep going and make it work.. This isnt just politics. Asia is the economic future..😷

@sree251 I absolutely agree . The story of Asias progress is part of the story. The other side is Americas failure to continue. Its almost as if they reached the Moon, then sat down and said ""Game over.. We won" and focused on reaping the rewards. Not looking for the next challenge. The fall of the Soviet Union left America with no direction. So they became a self satisfied hedonistic society.. And others picked up the slack and moved in..😷

Hitler did say that America was a nation of playboys. Perhaps, it is in our DNA, this hedonistic bent. Yet, we are prudes compared to the Europeans. We have a law against prostitution but not so in Europe. Infidelity is rife in France.

@sree251 I think there is a whole theseis in there on the differing attititudes. My personal view is that the regilious bent in America sees all this as "Sin"but still cant help themselves. Where more secular nations accept it as human behaviour, to be done discretely..Religion is certainly a big factor in America that isnt seen in other developed countries..(Naturally Americans see this as "normal")😷

Is she good at her game? I think men are better, more daring. What kind of sport are you into? Judging from your lean body, I think you are into running, long distance?
What do I think of Eileen Gu? She's a downhill free-style skier and part-time model. What am I suppose to be looking for here?

Impressive. I like gymnasts; men, that is. They have great bodies. Can you do the balance beam routines?
Diving is my greatest fear. I couldn't jump from a 10 ft high diving board. The body just won't let me. How high can you dive from?
I'm into acrobatic gymnastics, endurance running and competitive aquatic high diving.

Tarrifs will put a stop to China. Just stop giving them our money. None of that should have ever happened in the first place.

Ok.
By the way, why haven't you posted anything in a month?
Why does he want to come on as an American living the good life in the US?
Canada is really a cool place. My mom used to take me to Nova Scotia every summer when I was a kid. The last time she took me to Canada we spent a month at Lake Muskoka. We rented an airbnb on the water. One day while we were swimming in the lake (we weren't actually swimming but bobbing about in the water in our life jackets), a guy came by in a canoe with his girlfriend. He chatted us up and invited us to his house for dinner. We went. The moment he opened the door, mom spotted a hat and exclaimed, "oh, a Tilly hat". Our host replied, "That's my hat. I am Tilly." Alex Tilley died last year October 28.
No actually, you never answered a single comment that I posted to your thread here. Not a problem. I don't really give a shitte whether you do or you don't.
Ok.

He told you lots of things, including racing dirt bikes in Utah but which was really an event that was held in western Canada at the time, which is where the photos were taken of him standing beside a white dirt bike.

No we don't "all have different meanings for the term seafood", sree.
The term "seafood" which includes only shellfish and crustaceans, is an internationally recognized definition of what specific aquatic life constitutes "seafood".
I know that Americans classify any edible food that grows in the sea as "seafood" which in American standards includes seaweed and other vegetative life. The rest of the world however, does not recognize those American standards of aquatic cuisine.
It is a deliberate abstinence because I've been an athlete for my entire life, which means that booze does not form any part of my diet.
What is rude is the contempt that Americans have toward the culture and traditions of other countries of the world, which of course includes the cultural traditions of Muslims.
If you drink alcohol in front of a Muslim, you are conveying a contemptuous American attitude toward Muslims which is fundamentally why Muslims around the world hate Americans in general.
But I understand why you think a Muslim's preference for your abstinence from drinking alcohol in their presence is rude sree, because like most Americans, you simply don't know any better if you find their preference rude.
Smoking is a filthy, disgusting habit sree. Smoking has been banned inside all restaurants, bars, government buildings and public mall spaces in Canada for over 20 years now. For you to light up a cigarette in an American restaurant whilst dining with someone who doesn't smoke, you would be conveying another typical form of contemptuous behavior that Americans don't hesitate to convey toward others, including their fellow Americans.
What I have learned from you is that we all have different meanings for the term "seafood".

Why do you avoid alcohol, swirlie? Is it a deliberate abstinence or something to do with your way of life?

Muslims don't drink. They prefer that I don't drink in their presence. I find that rude.

Oh wow! An athlete. I like that. A woman athlete's body is beautiful to look at. Allison Stokke looked great at her prime. Generally, I go for 100m women athletes' bodies. Ripped and well-proportioned. I prefer mens' physiques when it come to swimming. What do you think of Eileen Gu?
Ok, you are still young and committed to fitness. No wine. Fair enough.

It's not just a tortoise and hare race to the moon. There's an economic and military race going on too.

@sree251
You are right about the tortoise and hare analogy. For a decades now China has been long term planning while the US has been short term reacting. Or at least that's what it looks like to me.
I don't know who is going to win or what winning would even look like. But we seem to be two world powers that are going in different directions. They are becoming more influential in the world while the world is becoming more skeptical and less trusting of the US.
So, who is going to win? Would be heartbroken if China wins?

Who gets to the moon next? The US never got to the moon the first time, so anyone who gets there now will be the FIRST persons to ever walk on the moon.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
Space will be like the Wild West: every man (it usually was) for himself. Even today that attitude exists and, to my horror, is being championed by the descendants of the early immigrants who brought 'civilisation' to that particular frontier. Not sure why the Moon, or anywhere else, would be free from such an attitude.

You DO know that DogMan is a Canadian, don't you sree? Yes, I know he presents himself as an American on this website, but he's actually a Canadian who lives out in southern Alberta Canada.

Really? I thought he said he has a farm somewhere in the US. I forget. Doesn't matter to me if he is a Martian coming on as a Californian. I interact with everyone at face value. You've got to be free.

We have been the most innovative nation on the planet. China has been catching up through copying what we have created. Steve Jobs did say that there is nothing wrong with copying technology. This is the natural learning process. Why re-invent the wheel for? The point is, why have we turned stupid? We neglect our infrastructure, pay no heed to our fiscal responsibility and well-being of American society. We are fixated on the wrong things.

@sree251 I have to disagree on a few points. The US has not innovated much in half a century.
And China is not copying US tech. To be blunt you don't copy obsolete tech. For example the US is using tariffs to keep Chinese cars out of American markets because if US auto companies had to compete Detroit would be out of business. Western cars are 20 years behind. And Deepseek made the entirety of Silicon Valley look like amateurs.
