There is a doctrine called "Eminent Domain." But apparently Huntington Beach doesn't want to use it because it would be quite costly to simply buy up the properties. So instead, they are destroying the residents' equity, chopping 10, 20, 30 feet at a time, like a predator going out for snacks.

Eyewitness News has asked the city of Huntington Beach why permits were issued to homes on Rhone Lane in the first place when the easement has been there for decades. A spokesperson said they were investigating.
