I had read the books years before movies came out. I didn’t love them at the time. I kinda appreciate them now though. The movies are kinda like someone giving a flying overview of the main events in the books.
A lot of the lore was left out. The book is a literary masterpiece. Worth reading.
I like Jordan also, even if his female characters are pretty one dimensional with all that braid pulling and sniffing.

@TheDeathOCuHullainn Jordan was a solidly high quality writer but even the best are far from perfect. Indeed, His women were one of the sorest points, not doing real women justice.

I only saw the first LOTR movie. I couldn't get through The Hobbit.
I enjoyed the books and have a few of the ones Christopher Tolkien put together after JRR's death.
