Why doesn't Trump show some guts and send US Navy ships through the Straits of Hormuz?

We have deployed - out of harm's way - two carrier strike groups: the Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea, and the Gerald Ford in the Red Sea.

Sending the Gerald Ford thru the Suez Canal from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea was dumb. It is now in a "fish tank" within range of Iran's hypersonic missiles. The Suez Canal was a tight squeeze. The Houthis are waiting at the Gulf of Aden. To escape, the Gerald Ford will have to get back out to the Mediterranean thru the Suez Canal again. Two hypersonic missiles, one aimed at each end of the Suez Canal, will seal it locking up the entire carrier strike group.

...because the Gerald Ford for example, could be sunk in a heartbeat by a ballistic missile which is why all aircraft carriers are now considered obsolete.

Any floating airport that needs an entire support group like half a dozen Destroyers following it around everywhere it goes, no longer has relevance in a theater of war.

The carrier cannot defend itself because it has no guns and the Destroyers cannot be used for some other purpose because they cannot leave the carrier unattended.

Are you really a 35 year old female nancing around? War talk does not become you.
@swirlie Well said. The only carrier type that will likely stick around are ones based on Soviet doctrine because unlike western carriers they are intended for hunting strike carriers like the Gerald Ford. Soviet doctrine was to build carriers and heavy cruisers to sink carrier strike groups not to bomb infantry inland.

War talk does not become Donald Trump or Pete Hegseth either, particularly when the USA is losing big time to Iran.

You DO know that the USA is literally trapped in Iran now, don't you? The US is now in a check-mate situation which they put themselves in.

...and no, I'm not a 35 year old female, I'm 32.

If half you guys knew a quarter of what you pretend to know about, this whole political group would be a very informative place for all to learn from.

Wrong. It's damn near impossible to sink a modern US carrier with conventional weapons. I don't know where you're getting your info but its dead wrong.

Actually, I'm right. It wasn't MY discovery, it was the discovery of the Pentagon when they were about to spend $1Trillion on a new carrier when engineers brought it to their attention that a carrier is no different than the Titanic... both are sinkable and the Titanic proved that to the world.

Why on earth would you even think that a carrier is not sinkable?

@swirlie Partially because of this video.

Why Sinking an Aircraft Carrier is Almost Impossible

The Iranians know they are fighting with Donald Trump and not fighting with the USA. At any rate, when the smoke clears, the US will be kicked out of the Middle East.

You DO know that the USA is literally trapped in Iran now, don't you? The US is now in a check-mate situation which they put themselves in.

Trump is trapped in Iran. Trump is indeed a man of peace. He has destroyed US legitimacy in the Middle East not to mention the destruction of NATO. Trump has ended US superpower hegemony.

Ok.

We don't pretend to know. What we know is what is known and shared on the internet.
@Vin53 They said literally the exact same thing about the Titanic and the Bismark and a whole host of ships that are now artificial reefs.
@Vin53 Sorry but that video is just cope and propaganda bragging about US carriers. Might as well have posted a clip from Top Gun for it's relevance.

The strait of Hormuz is so narrow that if the carrier entered the strait they could literally use that drone to call in regular tube artillery and blast away at the ships with that. Which would be an issue because modern naval ships are designed to defeat anti ship missiles not shells.

On top of that a ballistic missile can absolutely hit a large floating bomber base. And even THAD missile systems have been failing to defeat said missiles after ground targets.

This video also talks about anti ship missiles.

Something like the Fatah 2 which is hypersonic there is literally no SAM system in existence that is capable of intercepting something like that because it would require violating the laws of physics.

And even US think tanks that analyze these things have been pointing this stuff out since the early 2000s even before hypersonic missiles were operational.

You also don't need to sink the ship. You just need one hit on the flight deck and the entire air wing is grounded and it is an operational kill.

All western planes require perfectly smooth runways whether on land or at sea. Western aircraft are literally incapable of taking off anywhere that the enemy can damage your runways.

Hell even a cluster munition over a flight deck might do enough damage.

With missiles like the Fatah 2 you are also looking at missiles with multiple warheads that can be independently directed similar to an Oreshnik (although the Fatah only has 2 warheads).

And again literally all you have to do to take a carrier out of the fight is damage the flight deck.

Carriers also are not designed to survive swarms of drones and saturation tactics. And the US and Israel have proven they have completely ignored 3 years of war in Ukraine because they have demonstrated that they have no tactical response to drones. And like their land base counterparts you can blind air defense on the ships with drones taking out the radars and after that you are a sitting duck.

Arrogance is how you end up with ships at the bottom with all hands lost.
