@pdockal And, with all due respect, that pretty well defines you. Let others go without, screw them....Its their kids that are going to be a problem for your kids and you..Think it through...😷

@pdockal The "with respect" was because I am trying to open a dialogue where one can introduce new concepts and have them looked at without prejudice. But your reply makes that difficult because you make a completely incorrect statement and claim it as fact. Socialism DOES work. If correctly applied.. Socialism exists deeply inbedded in American society. It just works very badly when the money paid in comes from the ordinary person and goes to the rich. Or when the money applied does nothing to solve the original shortfall that required support. Subsidising Farmers, or coal mining or steel companies does nothing to improve their competitiveness in the market. In fact it stops the free market from forcing them to compete or pack up and go. On the other hand, supporting education creates a better workforce for the future and supporting health care lowers the long term cost of care later, with less chronic illness. And many European countries.. Or Japan, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are all testament to this, with much less government debt than America.
However, with your attitude, and because it obviously offends you, I withdraw my respect..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman when you think of it.. how many company does the government support.. and give them tax brakes .. that is a bit of socialism .
and FDR who got us out of the depression .. his was a bit of socialism .. funding the roads and power in rural areas..
all things need balance to work.

@markinkansas That is exactly Socialism. Taking money from one portion of society and using it to give a break to another. And many communist nations have "Invested" from the people to seed industries. Then when Industry pays off they use the money from that to invest in the people, through education. Then finally the middle class takes off and the whole thing pays off. That is essentially what China has done. I am not speaking to the politics . Just the economics of it..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman cuba even has
Access & Cost: Education is free at all levels.
Compulsory Education: Mandatory from ages 6 to 15 or 16.
Higher education includes universities, higher institutes, and polytechnic institutes.
Graduates are often required to complete three years of social service..
Results: High literacy rates and near-universal enrollment, with strong results in math and science.
free education for three years giving back to the people
maybe we need free college and university to keep up .. and it is not just that cuba that does this

@markinkansas I am not in favour of "free" college. Students should contribute to further education. But subsidies should be available for citizens. And if the nation needs more doctors, scientists engineers of whatever, those subjects could be free. There is a balance for the public good. But we dont need more Egyptologists or Lawyers..😷
markinkansas · 61-69, M
@whowasthatmaskedman not quite free when after they have to use what they learn for 3 years helping the state .. free doctors for the poor . ect
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@markinkansas Yes. Or working in a regional/remote area that has trouble attracting staff.. The point is a long term view for the nation. Using your Cuba example. Imagine how much that nation could advance if the big, bad US wasnt trying so hard to obstruct them..😷

@whowasthatmaskedman yup i do know .. they rent out doctors to counties in south america and the money helps support the country. and help the other country ..
