Court holding hearings in Minnesota lawsuits seeking to curb federal agents

The Washington Post reports:

“As she grilled lawyers for the state of Minnesota, U.S. District Judge Katherine Menendez expressed continued skepticism that she has the authority to curtail the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement surge.

It’s clear Minnesota has “one set of values” while the administration has another, Menendez said. “We’re at risk of asking me to decide who is right here.”

Still, Brian Carter, an attorney for the state, said the worsening situation on the ground demanded immediate court intervention to protect Minnesota’s state sovereignty.

“We’ve had the National Guard activated. We’ve had another person killed. We’ve had local law enforcement resources that are exhausted … and we’ve had continuing statements by the administration of coercion and pressure,” Carter said. “Relief is appropriate now, and it should be granted now.”

My comments: C’mon Judge Menendez, it’s pretty damn obvious who is right here vs who is lying & committed murder!

More reporting:

“ U.S. District Judge Katherine M. Menendez kicked off her questioning of the Trump administration’s lawyers by asking whether the immigration enforcement surge in Minnesota would end if Gov. Tim Walz (D) agreed to policy changes Attorney General Pam Bondi sought in a letter Saturday.

The letter appeared to link an end to the federal surge to Bondi’s requests that Minnesota roll back its sanctuary city policies and provide the federal government access to public assistance data and voter rolls.

“Is the executive trying to achieve a goal through force, which it can’t achieve through the courts?” Menendez asked.

Justice Department attorney Brantley Mayer said he could not commit to any change in the administration’s enforcement efforts if Walz were to meet Bondi’s demands and waved off suggestions that they were linked.

Menendez appeared skeptical: “I have all of these quotes in the record. You’re telling me that I’m reading them wrong.””

More of my comments: Also pretty damn obvious which side is operating in good faith and which side isn’t!
